Kimberly Ann's Story
Hi! My name is Kimberly Ann May, A.K.A Kimmy, KARMA, KimMay, Kimbo, and Mom. I am a 1989 Leominster Senior High School graduate. While attending Leominster Senior High School I pursued business courses and I was a cheerleader for hockey, soccer, and football,as well as a member of the LHS swimteam and various musicals. After graduation, I continued taking dance lessons with Dance Arts Centre. I won an award in 1990 for Dancer of the Year. I also competed in Las Vegas for the title of Miss D.E.A. Although I did not win the title, it was both an honor and privilege to parttake in such a wonderful event and dance in front of the infamous Gregory Hines. Dancing was always a passion of mine. I was actively involved in jazz, ballet, tap, and clogg dancing. Tap being my alltime favorite. In 1990 1991 I took part in Leominster's 250th Anniversary Celebration, where I took first runner up in the Miss Leominster Pageant. I also played the part of a Jet in the play the Westside Story at Mt.Wachusett Community College. I did some light modeling at John Robert Powers in Worcester, MA and I was going thru the process of participating in the Miss Massachusetts Pageant, until I opted to back out due to funds, etc. I also did some modeling for Mary Kay, Paul Mitchell and various bridal shows. From there, I left the protective wings of my parents....and ventured out into the world with no real plans in place. My future husband and I moved into a 3-family apartment located on Arlington Street in Leominster....where we stayed for a couple of years. I held 3 jobs after highschool to help us stay afloat . I worked at The Sheraton cleaning rooms, Shaw's bakery, and for Northern Mortgage Co., Inc., as well as Norwest Mortgage Co., Inc. as a Mortgage Processor. I had always yearned to obtain a college degree, but the timing was not right at the time I suppose. Instead, while a vast majority of my former classmates were in college....I was busy establishing my work history...and I began to build a family of my own. In 1993, I got married to Kevin. We will be celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary on May 29th of this year. In 1994, we gave birth to our first child, Brianna, and we purchased our very first home. In 1996, we gave birth to our second child, Colleen. While our children were growing up, I worked part-time at JCPenney, and I was also a part-time pre-k 4 teacher's aide at Julie Country Day School. I also took care of my cousin's two boys during the day. I was actively involved with the kids elementary education. I would often volunteer my time and creativeness during school fairs, etc. At one point, I was St.Leo's substitute art teacher. Boy was that fun! I had a blast with all the kids. I also volunteered to do facepainting for Senator Antonioni, the former Sheriff, John Flynn, various schools, and at JCPenney sponsored events. I was also a member of the St.Leo's float committee. I helped decorate the school float that year....and the girls dressed up in period clothing and played the roll as students learning about Johnny Appleseed. We utilized a close friends tractor trailer truck....LOL! That year I dressed as Leo the Lion and marched thru all of downtown during the parade. Ironically, they put me in back of the horses. Need I say more. LOL!...Expand for more
The things that I did...but it was well worth it. When the kids entered school full-time, I took an assistant management position at JCPenney. I held that position for a month, and was then promoted to Pricing Supervisor for the Leominster store. I successfully held that position for 7 years, until I decided to pursue another career path. I am now working as a lead medical secretary for multiple provider's at a very busy ophthalmology practice in Worcester. I am in my 7th year with RMG and am actively looking to advance within the company. During my 7 year tenure....I became part of the GSB Medical Response Team (March 2011). (Received my CPR certification 2011). I also became a member of the Disaster/Evacuation Team 2011. I humbly received the "Employee of the Month" Award, as well as the "Employee of the Quarter" Award....and became actively involved in the "LEAN" transformation, etc. In addition to the other responsibilities that I have within the department, I am also in charge of training newhires (secreterial). Today, I am currently pursuing a long awaited dream of mine...To pursue a degree. At the age of 41, I am pursuing an RN Degree at Quinsigamond College. I began my college journey in the Fall, 2010...working originally toward an associates degree in business administration via the tuition reimbursement program offered thru the healthcare system, until I made the switch to General Studies in Healthcare....I have completed 10 courses to date....and it is with great anticipation, that I will be accepted into the RN program within the next couple of years. I have been awarded several grants thru the school system and I was invited to participate in the Honor's Program. Today, I am an active member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, as well as an active member of The Commonwealth Honor's Program. I currently have a 3.90 cummulative GPA, and I have made the Merit List the last 3 semesters, earning anywhere from a 3.88 to a 4.0 during those semesters. I am so proud of what I am accomplishing...and I know that I am setting a wonderful example for our children....I will support their future goals in education....and I will continue to make the most of my higher educational journey. There is so much that I want to do....and I am just beginning. Over the years I have volunteered to participate in several community events, and continue to do so. I love helping people of all ages. Most recently I volunteered to work for the Hanover Theatre in Worcester. It was a year commitment...and I volunteered twice a month for 2 years. I had the oppurtunity to see some great shows and to meet some really wonderful people. When I made the decision to resign from the Hanover Theatre this season, I donated all of the tickets that I earned for volunteering to those less fortunate, because I felt fortunate enough to be able to experience the theatre as I did....and I felt as though others, less fortunate, should have the same oppurtunity. I also volunteered at the St.Vincent's Cancer Survivor Event. I love helping others and I feel really blessed to be where I currently am in life. No, my life has not been perfect, by any means, but because of my experiences in life...I think it has helped shape me into the person that I have become...To be continued....
