Kittie's Story

I know most people in High school thought I was a total geek, or a weirdo, and rightfully so. It wasn't a secret that I always went to a beat of my own drum and that I would do things just to get a reaction from people. At times I was easily distracted and other times things just whizzed over my head - at least that's what most people would say about me. The fact is, I really did know what was going on and studied other people's behaviors, body language and facial expressions. I knew I didn't fit in with the IN crowd and wasn't terribly upset by it either because it never felt right to pretend to be something I wasn't. Little did any of us know that dyslexia and ADHD were common, much less that so many of us probably never knew we fit the profiles with symptoms that match the criteria for the differences. What a relief to finally know I wasn't a total spaze on purpose, that an explanation was available. With the knowledge that I was smarter than any of us would have believed (could pass the mensa exam - really - how weird is that?...Expand for more
) I went on to finish my PhD in psychology. Now all the things I used to do naturally are things I teach others to do. I worked as a clinican with kids with special needs, delinquency, gifted and talented and developmental delays. Parents and teachers have been in attendance of workshops and consultations about behavior modification plans and techniques to assist with individual issues their children may have. It's easy for me, since I was that kid everyone thought was weird. I understand where the kids are coming from and the internal struggles they face because they know they are different but don't understand why. I love my life now. Currently,I am a Psychology Professor at New England College in New Hampshire. I have two grown children and a husband of 32 years. My eldest child is a singer/songwriter on the rise - Graham Weber. My daughter is a philospher/painter/artist still working out who she will become. Life has been good to me and I embrace the struggles that have lead me to where I am. So, what have you been up to?
