Klyne's Story

After Gladstone: Attended Pitt twice around two stints in army. 2nd army trip was to attend IBM computer school and it cost a year in S. Korea, setting up digitized communications. a year in GA, tech writing and teaching at the Signal School, and 3 years in Colorado maintaining the personnel computers. One of my instructors at IBM school kept in touch and gave my name to his new employer, MAI/SORBUS in 1980. I took the Sorbus offer and started at their Pittsburgh office Feb. 4, 1982. I ran into a few of you as customers and it was very nice to see someone I knew from Gladstone. I was promoted to run large systems in Pittsburgh and was resisting moving to hq when an opportunity to stay on large computers came along in 1994. I moved to Huntsville, AL and worked out of the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center until 2012 helping to maintain, consolidate and update the computer systems to new technology. I was shocked at the millions NASA was wasting on computer systems and the people at Johnson were the worst. I had to move on into servers. pc's etc until I retired last February on my 40th anniversary with the company. I have had 3 wives, all deceased and 1 daughter. I have/had pretty muc...Expand for more
h the same friends as when I left high school. I worked out of my home the last 10 years, the last 4 here in my home town because my last wife was my childhood sweet heart from here and I needed help caring for her after she was afflicted with ALS. I spend my time fighting ants, not watching Alabama football, traveling, sometimes with a grand-niece we raised from 4 months until she started school. I am going on a Covid-delayed cruise in Jan and I have an Amtrack trip that had to be rescheduled. Other than that I can catch up on my reading and ponder why it is getting so hard to find a senior citizen. :) June 19th thru July 22, 2023, still cleaning up storm damage from June storms. Just returned from cruise to close out the month on July, 29th. For some reason cruising is starting to feel like being held up by my ankles and shaken to empty my pockets. The favorite activities on the cruise seemed to be to eat while keeping up on social media while on the ship. At each port of call the hordes rush off as soon as possible to max out on duty free items and 3, 4, or 5 t-shirts for $10.00. I can not see the bargain after paying for a cabin and transportation costs to get to the ship.
