Kris's Story
(1974-1993) After graduation I joined the Marines in September 1974. I served as a Military Policeman, and then was an Embassy guard in Mogadishu, Somalia ('78-79) and Helsinki, Finland ('79-'81). I met my first wife in Helsinki. We were married eight years and had two sons. At the midpoint in my career I switched to being an Interrogation-Translation Specialist and learned Russian at the Defense Language Institute. My final assignment was working for Naval Intelligence debriefing Soviet defectors.
(1993-1997) After the Marines I moved to Aspen where I worked one year in Parking Control, and then three years as a letter carrier with the US Postal Service.

d worked at US Central Command in Tampa, FL (1997-2012). In 2001 I was invited to be the Security Assistance officer in Tashkent, Uzbekistan for six months, but after 9/11 my time was extended three months. I met my current wife, Tatyana, in Tashkent. We have been married 21+ years. I later served two tours in Iraq (Abu Ghraib 2004, Baghdad 2008-09). In 2012 Army transferred me to Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL. I served one tour in Afghanistan (2016-17). When I returned from Afghanistan they closed the Huntsville office and transferred me to Atlanta (2017-18). After a year they realized their mistake and transferred me back to Huntsville to re-establish operations. I retired in 2020 with a total 45 years of Federal service.
