Kristin's Story
Life
After High School, I continued working... tried various types of work, then about 10 years after school, went back to college to get a degree in Computerized Graphic Design and eventually started my own business. Never would have thought that my 'hobby' would become a successful career. Haven't looked back - only forward! I have a wonderful son, Steven who turned 15 in June '09!
We have a cat named Lars (named after the drummer from Metallica) that thinks he's a dog. Three horses, Ranger - my 4 yr old registered Appendix (Quarter Horse/Thoroughbred)gelding; Raven - my 8yr old registered Quarter Horse mare; and Tank - my son's registered Quarter Horse 2yr old gelding. My son and I have been training his colt, and my son has even done some very light riding on him - no spookiness at all, Tank is very laid back.
We live in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado in beautiful Ridgway (near Telluride). Moved my design business to Ridgway also - and has it taken off! I still have customers back in I...Expand for more

Waking up every morning, looking out at the San Juan mountain range...there's just no words for the views here! Can't believe that I used to live in the 'city'.
Workplace
During high school worked for McDonald's for 2 months, had a short stint delivering pizza for Domino's and making service calls for Sears. Then my junior year got a job with Service Merchandise (4 years). Worked my way up from Sight & Sound clerk to Showroom Manager - all by the age of 20. Left Service Merchandise to work for Allstate Consumer Finance, then worked for Northwest Lincoln-Mercury in Schaumburg. From their got into Computer Security for Wickes Furniture in Wheeling (3 years), then with Safety-Kleen in Elgin (2 years), then with a private consulting firm in Rosemont (3 years). Decided to take my part time business of graphic design and start my own design/printing business, Avalanche Graphics, LLC and haven't looked back - best decision I ever made (10+ years and going strong)!
