Kristina's Story

Life If you are taking the time to read my bio, please take a moment to let me know you were here. I am now out of the service living in Alaska, giving it my all to be the best mother I can be, for my girls truly are my world. I earned my Associates and currently working on my Bachelor's in Accounting and Finance. I want to teach people how to live within their means by budgeting their income and to repair their credit report, for both are life long activities. I cherish the lessons I learned from Grandma and Grandpa. School During the years of high school my family moved around, well just because life happens. Some would consider this a negative experience, due to the number (8). Well, not me; I for one was more than relieved for the first move. I had lived in Carlinville all my life up till the 9th grade; and I never really seemed to fit in. I stayed true to myself and there are a few people that I do miss from Carlinville, but mostly I knew the world had much more to offer than the Blue Lady, cow tipping and Friday night football games. I remember all the cracks and comments about my southern accent. Imagine my surprise when I moved to Virginia and everyone was saying I talk weird. That was truly hilarious. This brings me to Warren County High. Whenever I even think of Front Royal, I cannot help but remember the wonderful friends and great times I had there. I remember going to Charlie's house with the gang and playing D&D and then going to the mall to catch a movie. I can say that I was fortunate to of made the lifelong friends that I did. Although I have not heard from some in 20+ years it does not change the fact that we are friends. For it was these friends that taught me that I was fine being me and started me on the path of learning to truly enjoy life. So thank you for touching my life. Now it brings me to my junior year, I started once again in Carlinville. The 1 1/2 years I was in Front Royal really changed me. People noticed that I was more alive and did not care as much what people thought. I noticed that people were starting to notice the change in me and started to take the time to try to get to know me. Then after Christmas break I found myself moving once again attending Moroa High. Now I do not have it on my bio, since I was only there for a month. But that month was even more of a growing experience. I remember participating in the school's lip sync contest and all the talk about well if the new girl can do it so can I. I enjoyed the fact that I inspired someone to experience life, instead of just living it, and a few days later I finished up my Junior year back in Front Royal. In fact, just about everyone from the Class of 89 in Front Royal had a positive effect on me as well as memory. The year of years, my senior year; I was fortunate enough...Expand for more
to have moved to Alexandria during the summer. To this day I still do not understand why people in Front Royal would say they were going down to the country when referring to the city. But that is just one of the funny quirks about Front Royal. I have lessons learned and cherished memories from T.C. Williams, from the yearbook staff to hanging out at the wall, and then playing stretch with the gang from the wall every chance we got. For those that never heard of stretch before, it is twister but with a knife, and the left foot was never allowed to be moved. The friends I made there were one of a kind and although I may never hear from them again I cherish the time we shared. Then my dad learned that I got stabbed at school and before I could blink an eye I was attending Strasburg High School. Although I graduated from Strasburg I was only there during the last couple months of my senior year and it was too short of time to truly get to know anyone. By this time I was burned out with being the new kid in school and since Front Royal was so close I was able to hang out with the old crew. Now do not get me wrong I still met some wonderful people but everyone was already making plans for what they were going to be doing after graduation, so we were already in the moving on mindset. Military I joined the Army in 92 and continued the path of self-growth. The times I spent in the Army are truly memorized for I was allowed to be me no questions asked, and continue to challenge myself each and everyday. It is during this time that I realized having three brothers and no sisters had more effect on me than I thought, for I found myself being more of one of the guys. I am a better person for knowing some of the people that I did. Bully will always be missed, for he taught me more than he realizes about life and myself. After Germany I was stationed at Fort Belvior, Virginia. I made some great friends there and they did not question the times I needed my space. I did enjoy my time with HHC, and have fond memories of those that I was able to get close with. I know life happens and when military is part of the ringer it is a reality that you may never see each other again, but if you are reading this, I truly wish my brother and sisters of arms true happiness. After Belvior well there is Ft. Carson, Colorado and I had opportunities to shine there and they gave me room to demonstrate that my value to the Army and my Unit, in which I prided myself on how well I knew and performed my job and duties. I am thankful that I was able to meet some soldiers that I attended AIT with, Gibson if you are reading this I would love to hear from you, and I hope all is well. Now for an update, I have reconnected with several classmates on facebook, and thankful for their friendships, for I am truly blessed.
