Kristen's Story

2009 I got laid off on Valentines Day 2009. Or "ripped off" as my son said. I get why it happened but it wasn't a fun experience and I went through a whole gammet of emotions. But as luck would have it, I found another job two weeks later, through a friend. Turns out it was the perfect job for me, and I worked out a deal where I can leave in time to pick up my kids from school. I am now working as a controller (accountant) for a DME software company. I knew about the business when I started there but I've learned a lot since. It's great to be in an industry that is doing okay. (medical field) My oldest son is starting high school this fall, I have another in middle school and the youngest is in elementary school. Time sure has flown by. Updates 2008 Going back to school proved to be a very wise decision. I am now working as a staff accountant for a management company. I LOVE my job, my boss and my co-workers. My boss depends heavily on me, and he seems to really respect my opinions and thoughts about how to make things work better. I've been deeply involved in a clean up project since I started in Feb. and I'm finally closing out 2007 for my final store, which makes me very happy. I can hardly wait to be working on current financials. I will also be getting a promotion with more responsibility, which I'm not sure I'm ready for, but I look forward to learning more about the company and how to make it all flow, at least on the financial side anyway. Married life is going great. The kids seem to get along, even though some are step sibilings. It was a l...Expand for more
ittle rough there for a bit, but picking back up to the bliss we had a year ago. My husband and I enjoy spending time together and on occassion we get weekends alone, which helps us feel like the newlyweds we still are. Our kids are really involved in church, scouts, music and a little bit of sports. They are all doing well in school and we are so very proud of them in all they accomplish. I think they set very good examples for us as the parents and I hope they will continue to be strong in their values. Life I crazily decided to quit my job and go back to school in May 2007 to finish the schooling I started after high school. I have to admit I am a lot nervous but also excited and hoping this will open the doors needed for me to do what I would really like, which is to work as a financial analyst. School My best memories are of drama and choir. Probably some of the best times I've had and I actuallywish I could still work in drama somehow. Maybe someday I'll volunteer. I have continued music however and I've played the flute with several symphony orchestras over the years along with little things here and there around holidays. I've also been a choir director even but that was short lived due to life circumstances. I even play the piano, but still not very well. Mr. May probably inspired me most and I thought that it would bring me to a career in education but instead it brought me to accounting and I'm loving it. College Went to BYU and am now attending Collin County Community College (Quad C) to finish the accounting classes I started after high school.
