Kurt's Story
Life
Well where do you start with this, well I joined the military a couple of years after graduating, and ended up in Germany for 3 years. I met my wife of 22 years this October 2010, while stationed in Frankfurt. She has given me 3 beautiful children, one of which is a Junior in college this year. And her younger sister is going to Le Cordon Bleu for Pastry and Baking. Our son is a Fresjman in High School, and very happy his sisters are out of the house! SMIRK As you can tell by the different communities I am in, I enjoyed the military, and did some travelling with the family. We finally ended up in Minnesota, and then I ended up going to Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom, but have been here on and off for the last 17 years. I retired from the military in 2007, after 22 years. Figured that was enough. Haven't been back to St. Charles but once right after returning from Desert Storm. I hope to see how things have changed after all of these years.
Military
I retired ...Expand for more
in 2007, after 22 years in the U.S. Army, both Active duty and Active Reserves. I have done 3 tours in Germany, tour in each Ft. Carson, and Ft. Leonard Wood. I have been on several deployments, to include 2 combat tours in Iraq (Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom), and to include Guantanamo Bay in 1994-1995 for the second Cuban-Haitian migration north. I got to do a lot of travelling in conjunction with my military service, I have been to every country in Europe except for Finland, to include Russia, and East Berlin, also to the Middle East, North Africa, Central and South America, and a few countries in the Far East. Would not trade these experiences for anything, except for the time I had to spend away from my family. I mean some people will bad mouth the military, but because of it, well I met my wife, which I probably would not have had I not joined. But most importantly, I got to do and see things that most people will only ever dream about. I don't regret it one bit!!!
