Labelle's Story
Life
Living in Belize Central America. Working as a community development consultant, mostly with the indigenous Maya people. Helping to raise their income generating abilities. Received my tour guide license! It's great to get paid to travel this beautiful country. Photo is of my first experience ziplining and rapelling. The final Zip was 600 feet long, about 20 feet above the jungle canopy! Wow, it's great to be alive! all the presenters were scientists have many notes that may take me a while to absorb. I've heard many people say that the Belizean Barrier reef is dying, well the most important thing I learned was that it was not dying! It is declining in health and one scientist has proved that this occurrence has happened three times before in the last 500 years. Now if Belize allows oil exploration there will be most certainly a rapid decline in health and if there's an oil spill of any magnitude the reef could be almost instantly dead. I'm more determined then ever to inform everyone here about the need to vote on a moratorium to ban exploration and drilling offshore. LaBelle
