Laila's Story

Hi everyone. After High School I went into banking for many years. A few years after High school I re-met and married my first husband Karel Zaoral ( from our class at Queen E.). We had 2 children together, Tifani Lorien Zaoral (Tifi) and Karel Miles Zaoral ( Miles). I also eventually began my educational journey before we divorced. I started post-secondary education at Mount Royal in Industrial Hygiene and ended up at the U of C in Engineering. Between my 3rd and 4th year at U of C I did a 16 month internship at IBM in Toronto. After graduation. I was hired back but by then the electronic manufacturing division had been sold off and became a company called Celestica. I worked there for about 6 more years where I met the man who became my second husband (Ted). After I lost my daughter Tifi in a car accident (when she was 19) I moved back to Calgary and lived in a community called Hidden Valley until very recently. My son is almost 30 now. My how the time has flown. I have worked as a contractor in Oil and Gas projects for much of the time since I came back to Alberta In August Ted and I sold our house and downsized to a condo in Airdrie. We are still in the throws of developing storage solutions and unpacking. With the downturn in oil prices I was laid off after my most recent project was completed. Now my challenge is caring for my husband who has been diagnosed with cancer. I will not be attending this years festivities because of that. I read your stories from time to time and hope to see pictures from the event. don't forget to...Expand for more
add your stories to your profiles for the rest of us to view. I still love to read, sew and other various crafts. My newest hobby (out of necessity) is gluten free cooking and baking. How domestic of me LOL. Well, like most Leo's my home is my castle. I love to spend time with my extended family and friends. I don't have any grandchildren but my nieces are beginning to have babies and they are always fun to spend time with. ..................................................... Fast forward.... Well, my husband passed away on July 2, 2016. The last two months of his life was in a hospice and I drove back and forth each day to the hospice in north Calgary. It has been just over a year now and I am adjusting to living on my own. My nieces bring the kids by from time to time and I enjoy watching them raise their children and remember all the fond memories of raising mine. I am sewing & quilting more now and enjoying not having to go to work each day. Maybe, just maybe, I will work towards opening my own Etsy shop online. We will see how it goes. I will be 60 in a few weeks and have applied for early CPP. Honestly I may have to work part time in the future (costs being what they are) but for now, I am taking things one day at a time. About two years ago, through classmates, I found a childhood friend who moved to Paraguay when we were still children. We have been emailing back and forth since then on a regular basis. If any of you wish to get in touch with me I believe you can do so through classmates.
