Lanie's Story
Teaching, and learning are my life.
I just finished my "Journey Practitioner's Training" . I would like to think it is my last course, but, I sincerely doubt it. I have my Nursing Diploma from the Royal Columbian Hospital, then my post- grad from the University of Alberta, in OR Nursing and Supervision, next 9 of my 11 required credits for my Social Workers Degree from UBC, then my Computing Science from the University of Alberta, then a Nursing Refresher from Grant MacEwan College, followed by my Pastoral Care from the Edmonton General Hospital, my Adobe Certified Graphic Artist from U of A, my MircoSoft Certified Trainer from ITT, my Teaching English as a Second Language from Oxford, and my Skills for Working with People from UBC. 10 fields!, and now starting my 11th career, because I think being a great Mom counts as one also. Anyone think I am a 5 on the Eneagram? However, most of all I love "The Journey". Sometimes, I wonder what I would have been if I had only stuck to one career. Likely, dull, old, and searching. School is wonderful, and now at 58, I am starting yet another company. It's neat. I don't ever tire of change.
This last year I would like to say has been the hugest year of my life, but I know it hasn't. One year I told my children I was tired, and my very astute daughter told me I had been in 13 countries that year, and some of them twice. She cleverly said, Mom, "You should be tired."
I guess right now I am on a Graduation high. The best was studying in Denver Colorado, with Tony Robbins personal Assistant, of 12 years, who now has her own company. I also know there are more classes to follow. Wow.
Finally in September I graduated from my training as a "Journey Practitioner" in Denver. Now I just need to finish my case studies, and I'm off to Calgary two weekends this month to do that.
And to top it, my son was married in November to a Kindergarten teacher. It's just all so neat.
Life is really great.

Living on the beach in Barbados, WI. I can say I could die happy today, but I'd sure like to see Don post a photo, or send me an email. :)
I have traveled the world. I have never quit school. I am always learning. I love walking on the beach, or watching the stars at night. Thinking of going to some other country and teaching ESL, or being a "Journey Practitioner", maybe back to Asia, maybe South/Central America, and other possibility is Africa. This year we are going to San Antonio Texas, and have to pick a cruise, and another vacation.
I cannot wait until Andrew retires, so we have more time to travel.

popped up when I was surfing, and I was shocked how many people I went to school with were on it, including my sister!!! I was on Wikipedia!

The teacher I'd really like to see... Mr. McCallum, English, and homeroom. He covered for me and waited at the back door of the school when I had skipped out and gone to the Dell Hotel for a 7 Up, while the office wanted to tell me I was chosen for the exchange student summer program. He said I was writing an exam! Wow. The exchange program started me on my life of risking traveling. He changed my life forever that day. The 7 Up at the Dell was better than Chemistry anyway.
Mr. Okabi Math, Johnston Heights Junior High. Mr. Okabi was the only one to ever strike my Mom over the head with a paper, ever! during open house, telling her I was a lazy student!!! He also gave me rides home sometimes. I have never shared that until today. I played with his children and likely he lived only 6 houses from us, right past Pat's. Oh, how long ago.
Everyone still wants me to write a book. I have co-authored 2 books but they don't apparently count. They want my life story. ??? Go figure!!!
So now I am settled back in Edmonton, for a while. I have a house, a car, and Andrew my love lives with me.
Traveling weeks at a time takes lots of energy. Whatever, my daughter does not want to use up, or share.
This has been the busiest year of moves yet. I moved Randy, Kari, Andrew, myself, Kelly twice, Robert, and going for 3 with Kelly. QHP loves me.
I have used over 500,000 airmiles, and have three more flights planned. One suprisingly just for pleasure, to the Dominican Republic, where I love the old city of Santo Domingo, and have some great friends.
Currently, I am just waiting for new deck furniture. Suddenly I need at least 11 chairs. Our yard is great to hang in. We have rhubarb, an apple tree, a new puppy, a two level deck, a great spa/hot tub, and a fire pit. Thus we have a 1 acre bug zapper.
It fun to sleep to "szit, zap, and sizzle" as the bugs are gone.
Any, I think it's great to see new people joining the site. I feel somewhat connected.
I cannot imagine how anyone thinks of me these days. To be truthful, I have gotten over what people think of me. Life is just to much fun to worry about such things. I do make mistakes, and still seem to find my feet again. Though I guess I would like to be remembered as fun.
Most of my current friends call me champagne bubbles bursting on the ceiling, or as just Joy, Joy, Joy. That's cheating I think when they actually get three words to describe me.
