Lara's Story

Life Hello to friends from Lake Oswego ~ Like most of us, I have had alot happen in life since high school. I am married with 1 child [and 1 angel baby]. I am still in touch with my friends from LO. My closest friends now were freshman when we ruled the school as seniors; Laurie Treske & Heather Hertz. Laurie's hubby Troy & my husband Mike are best friends. My husband Mike went to Rex Putnam and graduated in 1988 also. We met on New Years Eve of 1994 and I knew that he was "the one"! We have a daughter; Emily who is 11 and will start the 6th grade Fall 08. She just started Cheerleading, and will play Basketball in the winter and Softball in spring..she played for the first time this past spring and was a natural!! Just has a knack for it! Starting Middle School this fall - I think I am more freaked out about this than she is!!! Her biggest worry is wether or not she can get to class on time with only 5 min between, and dealing with a locker too... Em has a great group of friends at school and has so far been a great student too, other than being 'chatty' during class...but she comes by that one naturally! We had a baby boy, Jacob; he was born Nov. 28, 2000; beautiful and healthy. On his 4th day, he caught the flu while we were still at Meridian Park Hospital. Jacob became gravely ill; the 'flu' had caused his liver to fail. After doing everything they could -the doctors at 3 diff. hospitals- (1st Meridian Park, 2nd - Emanuel NICU, 3rd - Lucille Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford where we were praying for a liver transplant to happen). On his last day, Dec. 18, 2000 we knew he wasn't going to make it. Thankfully, my Mom & Emily were able to fly down so they could say goodbye too. That was definitely the WORST day of my life! I look back and know that we were so lucky to have him for the 20 short days we did. He is our little guardian angel. Jacob was our butterfly..during his lifetime and afterwards, butterflys were suddenly all around us.. I have a simple butterfly tattoo with Jacob's name under it too. We now live in Sherwood where I am a stay at home mom for now. Mike works at PGE, he is a Journeyman Lineman. After graduation, I worked at several childcare/nanny jobs in Lake Oswego, West Linn, and Eugene. I also moved to Sun Valley, Idaho (w/Allison Nortness) working at the Lodge for ...Expand for more
6 months. However, nothing could keep me away from the Portland area for long. I've also worked as a past due accts collector at Sears then went onto US Bank where I was a Fraud Investigator for EFT (atm type) transactions. I was in a 3000+ employee layoff in 1998, but received a decent severance package that allowed me to stay home with Emily for over a year (and had the first 4 [of 16] surgeries at that time). Since then I was the Asst. Mngr for an Apartment Complex where we lived in Milwaukie, I left there when we bought our home in Sherwood, in Sept '02. Once again, I was able to stay home w/Emily for about 1-1/2 years then went to work p/t for a small business in Old Town Sherwood, after leaving there; I spent a few more months at home with Emily before finding my last job, and in Oct-was laidoff due to the crappy economy! OH Joy!.. but it give me more time at home with my daughter...that part I love! I have had several serious illnesses, the most recent was in Jan of '05, I came with in 6 hours of dying (according to the Doc), with Necrotizing Faciitis - aka: the flesh-eating bacteria. I was hospitalized for 29 days and had 10 surgeries to remove the diseased tissue. It really sucked!!! Including those 10, that brings me to a total 16 surgeries. I am doing much better now, and am very thankful to my Mom, Mike, all my family and friends who are the best anyone could ask for! Especially my Emily, (and mainly after her little brother died), who became my reason to get up in the morning! She is the greatest kid in the world!!! We enjoy spending family time in Seaside at our cousin's beach house, BBQ with family and friends, and the 4th of July at our neighborhood firework display is looked forward to each year! (It's quite big and usually draws well over 100+ families! the fun illegal fireworks-no wimpy Oregon only stuff!) Emily and I enjoy Scrapbooking together, making jewelry with beads and going to the local paint your own ceramics shop. For quiet time I have kept up my love of reading and while I cannot read 2-3 books a week anymore (before having a family it was easy) I try to read about 1 a month -and that's doing good! Well, that is enough from me; I would love to talk to or email with anyone! I hope that YOU are doing great! -Lara getting a massage, reading a book, time at the beach
