Lara's Story

Life Let's see, where do I start?? I've went a few yrs at TCJC, after graduating from Lake Country, then, transfered to Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ. Wanted to be an archaelogist!! Well, I never did become one, but have gone on several archaeological digs--even over to Israel!! Israel was awesome, and it really opened my eyes and I saw scripture in a totally different way!! It became so real to me! I saw the LORD outside of that traditional southern churchy box. I got to know the culture that He grew up in and got very interested in Jewish stuff! I got to learn Hebrew. Went one semester of school at the Institute for HolyLand Studies in Jerusalem which was an awesome experience. I love listening to Israeli music and what was so awesome was hearing really cool middle eastern sounds with Hebrew words that I recognized were straight from the bible! You guys, forgive me for being such a shy introvert. Those years were miserable ones for me. It was scary for me to socialize, I know that sounds bizarre but it was. I'm not as introverted, but still struggle with shyness. I always stuck around the cats, instead of hanging out with you guys--except senior yr when I got my car and got to drive people to lunch. I remember Cynthia? freaking out over an itty bitty white spider on my car window and I still smile and laugh when I think of ya doing that, Cynthia! Thanks for the memory!! Well, getting back to archaelogy, my last dig was a few yrs ago when I volunteered on a dig on the White River here in ARkansas where I live now. We didn't find much, but now, I'm reluctant to go on digs, now, because of Native American beliefs which I honor. I go to an Indian christian gathering when I can, now and we worship Jesus Native style with the drum, cherokee language, etc. I can't speak cherokee, but only know a few words. A group of Native christians went over to Israel a few yrs ago and got to drum in the...Expand for more
K'nessett(Israeli government building) and the rabbis freaked out and said "what are you doing? you're singing Hebrew!!" and the drummers said "what do you mean?? We aren't singing Hebew" and the rabbis said "yes you are!!! Don't you know what you're singing??? You're singing "the all sufficient one" Hayah yah, . Yah, a form of Yahweh. A lot of Native songs on the drum are not words, but chants, not really known words. Yes, I still love cats!! I have two, and I also make pine needle baskets, now! I love making pine needle baskets!! No, I haven't gotten rich. Been at it only 3 yrs, and I've sold some, too. One basket is on the mantle of a fireplace in Ireland, and 2 others are somewhere in Holland! I've been living these past 5 yrs in a little Ozark town of Mountain View Arkansas. We just got a big superwalmart that opened up here. A major thing. I now can get my beloved artichokes!! but I try to do business at the local grocers, too. We don't want them to go out of business. Mountain View is sort of like back 30 yrs ago. For example, when running for office, some of the politicans will knock on your door, saying 'vote for me' and give you candy! People still leave their doors unlocked, believe it or not and people hang out on the square and play bluegrass and folk music.(Mountain View Arkansas is known as the folk music capital of the world, and it also has some awesome caverns, Blanchard Springs Caverns!). I live in an old house that was built in the 30's. Nice big kitchen, and two bedrooms and a porch(and yes, I have a swing on the porch!). And guess how much rent I pay??? Only 235 a month!! I didn't like how it kept growing in DFW. I hate modern Apt buildings and cookie cutter looking all the same shopping centers. And I don't like those new townhouses that have been built near downtown FW near Monkey Wards. I don't like the changes! :( I prefer the old buildings and nostalgia, I guess.
