I've worked at S.S.STEINER (hop brokers) since 1979 as secretary. My husband, Brad Clack has worked for Steiners since 1982. He manages both Oregon and Idaho offices. Our Idaho office is only open during hop harvest season (August and September). The Oregon office is open all year. I work 10 to 14 hours a day, 7 days a week for about a month during hop harvest. The rest of the year I work 8 hours a day, give or take. The hop growers bring their dried and baled hops...Expand for more
to us to store until they're sold to breweries. Hops, in case you don't know are grown on tall poles in north Salem, St. Paul, Mt. Angel, and some in Independence. Hops add flavor, bitter flavor I understand, to beer. I don't drink beer - can you believe that? I love working for this company who is based out of New York. We have an office in Yakima, Washington where the most majority of the hops are grown. Steiners also has offices in England, Switzerland, China and Germany.
