Larry's Story
Life
I am married with a daughter, Sarah, age 18, who just graduated from EHS. I graduated from Millersville University with a BA in history and spent years in the printing industry. Since 1990 I have been a professional journalist and, in 1993, joined the staff of the Lancaster Intelligencer Journal where I am the city beat reporter. I also write a very popular, weekly humor column. I am proud to have been awarded 11 state journalism awards over the past 5 years and was named by Lancaster County Magazine as the #1 newspaper columnist in the county in 2000 and 2001. That just proves some people will read anything for entertainment. I also have been involved in Civil War re-enacting for 15 years and was an extra in the movies "Gettysburg" that starred Martin Sheen and Tom Berenger and again in "...Expand for more
Gods and Generals," the Gettysburg prequel which stars Robert Duvall. If you look hard and don't blink, you might spot me.
In May 2005 my first book came out. It is entitled "Biggest Brother: The Life of Major Dick Winter, the Man Who Led the Band of Brothers." It was published by New American Library, a division of Penguin Books. I appeared on the New York Times extended best sellers list for a number of weeks and was a featured selection of the Military Book Club. The softcover edition was released in May 2006, along with a Dutch translation version released in Holland and a Polish edition released in Poland.
He is currently at work on a new book "Shadows In the Jungle: The Alamo Scouts Behind Japanese Lines In World War II" which should be out in summer 2008 from Penguin books.
