Larry's Story
Well, to no one's surprise, I graduated AHS in 1965, five years before my younger brother, who is five years younger than me. It is still pretty much of a blur, but I heard I went to ELAC for a year and a half, dropping out just before flunking out and got drafted the same day as Gene Castro in Dec. 1968.
I went to basic training and AIT at Ft. Ord, then paratrooper training at Ft. Benning, GA. I was sent to Vietnam in July 1969, assigned to the 173d Airborne Brigade and was awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Star in 1970. Also spent time as a PT instructor at Ft. Bragg. Returned home in July 1970, made up my deficient credits at ELAC, and graduated in 1971.
On to Chico State that year and it turned out to be everything I had heard it was--and more! (Nuff said about that). I graduated with a B.S. in Health Science...Expand for more
in 1973 and then on to grad school at San Diego State. Received my Masters from SDSU in 1975, stayed right here in paradise working for the state of California for 8 years while attending Western State law school part-time, and graduated in 1975. In 1976, I was on the Bicentennal Committee.
Since 1987, I have had my own business, Lifeguard Medical, in San Diego. I still play basketball in two leagues (50+ and 60+), hit the gym another couple of times each week, and play poker in the casino twice a week.
During the summer, if you're looking for me, try the beach first.
I've been involved in minor San Diego and California politcs for three decades, although pretty much out of the loop these days. I also founded the SD chapter of the 173d Airborne (Army) and was the first chapter president for two terms.
