Larry's Story
Life
The year 1974 still seems very near and real in my memory. It's hard to believe that it's been 30 years since I graduated from Tascosa High School!
After THS, I attended Amarillo College and Texas Tech and eventually earned a BS in Petroleum Engineering. My first job assignment was with Tenneco in Lafayette, Louisiana. I spent five years in Cajun country and loved the culture and experiences there.
In 1985, I moved to California and spent three years there prior to the sale of Tenneco. Following that, I moved to Houston and settled in a suburb called Kingwood. After a year with an independent oil company, I went to work for British Gas (BG). I made the commute into downtown Houston for a not-so-wonderful five years. After initially focusing on domestic US oil and gas opportunities, I spent the next three years working on projects in Argentina. This marked my initial foray into the International oil and gas scene. In 1994, BG decided to pull out of the US and rather than relocating to the UK, I decided to go to work for Anadarko Petroleum which was also located in Houston.
I have been with Anadarko for ten years now and hope this to be my last stop in the cyclic world of th...Expand for more
e oil business. I moved to London in 1996 and spent six wonderful years there working on our Algerian project. I repatriated back to Houston in 2002 and settled in Magnolia which is located very near to our office in the northern suburb of The Woodlands.
In 1981, I married a girl that I had met at Tech. Unfortunately, after 22 years of marriage, we divorced in early 2004. However, during our marriage, we had four lovely children (2 boys & 2 girls). The oldest daughter is a junior at Trinity University in San Antonio and the oldest son is a sophomore at UT-Austin. The youngest daughter is a high school junior at The American School in England and the youngest son is in the 6th grade at the same school. My kids are a wonderful and successful bunch and I'm proud of each one.
Thanks to my career, I've been afforded the opportunity to travel and visit some interesting and even some not-so-interesting places on this planet. I've learned a great deal from my living experiences abroad and in different parts of the US.
What have I learned from all of this: To borrow a line from Ferris Bueller, "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."
