Larry's Story
Life
Prior to becoming Associate Dean in the College of Business at Kent State University in July 1996, Dr. Marks had served as chairperson of the Marketing Department for five years. He has wide ranging research interests in the area of advertising effects, having investigated the effects of context, presentation order, puffery, country-of-origin claims, and repetition of advertising on consumers' processing of advertising. He has also worked with Dr. Michael Mayo on the development and testing of models of marketing and consumer ethical decision making. Dr. Marks' work has appeared in The Journal of Advertising, The Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, International Marketing Review, and The Journal of Marketing Research, and has been discussed in the Wall Street Journal. He is listed in Who's Who in Advertising. His professional experience includes computer sales, marketing research and sales forecasting, and consulting.
As of July, 2006, Dr. Marks has returned to his faculty position in the Department of Marketing at Kent State University (15 years of administrative duty out of 20 years at KSU was quite enough, thank you!!!)....Expand for more
Between July 2006 and May 2013 my main assignment was to teach the mass section of Principles of Marketing. I taught a live section of 300 to 400 people and then created an online version of the live lecture for another 200 to 300 online students. In addition, I taught Marketing Mangement to Exective MBA students and continued to take small groups of students to Europe each May on an "International Business Experience."
In 2013, son Stephen graduated (on the 5 year plan) from OSU majoring in Finance and minoring in Math and Econ (whew!) and daughter Carolyn graduated from Seton Hall Law School and took the NY and NJ bar.
Due to changes in the Ohio Retirement system that made it financially wise, I officially retired from my KSU tenure track position on June 1, 2013 (that 27 years went quickly). However, inasmuch as I had no real interest in retiring I applied for a non-tenure track position (which was the replacement for me). I was hired into a non-tenure track position effective August 2013, doing the same work (at less pay, of course). Given that I had two summer classes, I have not had to worry about what to do in "retirement."
