Larry's Story
OK, this is the place I get to tell the loooong story of my life after graduation from high school. May, 1974, graduation from high school and off to college. Things at U of E got off to a slow start. Face it folks, I wasn't "Mr. Popular" or the high school quarterback, and, therefore, had a lot of socialization to catch-up on. In any case, college offered the chance to recreate myself. People get "pegged" in high school, you are what the clan says you are, and I needed to change that.
U of E didn't help me change that much, other than losing about 80 lbs. For my junior year in college, I transferred to IU Bloomington. Now, at IU, I got to re-create myself several times, and lose another 80 lbs. That's right folks; I lost 160 lbs from high school graduation 1974 until graduation from IU 1981. I lost part of the old me, and had to learn to live with the new me. Thank god for free psych therapy at IU!!!
As for the "things" I've done, well, I studied music at U of E and IU. Unfortunately, the Grammy award-winning music career was not mine to have. Although, I did get to earn a living performing concerti with orchestras for a couple of years, was solo oboist with the Houston Bach Society, and was in the finals for the International Wind Competition in Milan. Unfortunately, earning enough to finance a mortgage was another story.
While at IU...Expand for more
, I started cycling. Yes, that's road cycling on a bike you pedal. After graduation I got into road racing, and actually won the bronze medal at an international time trial event in Montreal. Later, I got my professional coaching certificate, worked as a professional trainer, was featured in the Denver Post article "Exercise Gurus," and was invited to coach at training camp for a little upstart baseball team called "The Colorado Rockies." Still, keeping a busy life, but not earning enough money to get a mortgage.
Now, at this point in life, one wants a house, and, yes, a mortgage to get said house. I needed to find a way to earn a good living, and enjoy my life outside of work. So, off to nursing school I went. At this point, life got in the way of my master plan. Needless to say, nursing school got put on hold while I dealt with some health issues. After all the docs finished working me over, I went back to school. This time, forget nursing, I got my Masters of Science in Physician Assistant Studies, completed my research in HPV and Cervical Cancer, and got a job enabling me to get a mortgage. YIPPEE!!!! Only thing is, now, I want to travel instead of getting a mortgage and stuck in one city. Am I nuts or what?
So gang, this is the short-long version of what's happened to me since graduation. If ya want more details, email me! CIAO!!!
