Larry's Story

College I began studying Mechanical Engineering in September 1961 at the Columbia, Missouri campus of University of Missouri. I left the University in June 1963 and worked at Mc Donnell Douglas Corporation as a draftsman in St. Louis until September 1964. I returned to the University in Columbia for one year and then returned to Mc Donnell Douglas as a technical illustrator. In the evenings I completed a BA degree in Political Science in January 1968 at the new St. Louis campus of the University of Missouri. While stationed at Great Lakes Naval Station from June 1968 through June 1972 I continued taking engineering classes in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for two years. I then applied for and was accepted at Roosevelt University in Chicago. I attended classes there in the evenings until I received my MBA in Management from the school in January 1973. I also completed graduate classes at both Marquette University and St. Louis University. In 1974 after moving to Houston, Texas I began work on a masters degree in accounting at the University of Houston. After two years I switched back and began completing my engineering degree. When I was within six classes of receiving my Civil Engineering degree I moved to California for a better job. I took engineering courses at the California State University campuses in Fresno, Los Angeles and Long Beach and actually returned for three classes in Houston, Texas in the Summer of 1986. I received my BS in Civil engineering in January 1987. Workplace I've worked for a German company based in a small city near Hamburg since December 1994. For seven years I travelled extensively throughout the United States making presentations to consulting engineering firms and engineers at major cities from Miami to Honolulu. In 2001 the German company sold the manufacturing rights to their product to a corporation based in the United States. For the last two and one half years I have continued to work for the German company. However, my clients have changed. I now work exclusively in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the Caribbean. For the last two years I've traveled on average approximately two weeks every other month to Australia and or New Zealand. My daughter lives and works in Auckland, New Zealand and my son will be working in Australia beginning in November 2003.
