larry's Story
After high school i did a leisurely tour of Kingsborough CC then Brooklyn College. graduated eventually with a degree in economics and was going to teach. The city wasnt hiring so i ended up getting a temp job in an industry that no one ever heard of (then anyway). It was cable tv and they hired me to splice cables in the sewers of Manhattan. It was lots of fun and i was on a first name basis with lots of sewer rats and roaches. However as time went on i got promoted and eventually was the head of operations at Manhattan Cable TV. Just about then big cities started to realize the potentilal of cable and were issuing franchises. Fortunately they all wanted the cables to go underground and there was only one former sewer rat (me) that knew how to do that. So i got hired to build and run the first 61 channel cable system in the US in Los Angeles. Bought a trunk on 14th st, threw my stuff in, and moved to LA. Eventually got the LA bug and wanted to make TV and movies of my own so me and friend Alan Mruvka came up with the idea and raised some money to start E! Entertainment TV. Needless to say that went well and the company is now in 142 countries and the cause for the corruption of most cultures in the...Expand for more
world (unless you want to consider Kardashian's as being a higher level than the Bolshoi. I eventually got bored and started doing things out of the US even while still at E!. First was Russia where i captivated them with soap operas (Santa Barbara was number 1 there or 10 years). Started a music festival with the then vice mayor of St Petersburg as a way to raise money for childrens charities. That guy is Vladimir Putin. The festival is called White Nights and still carries on. Over the years it was my way of getting to drink with Bowie, Cocker, Ringo and a host of others we all grew up listening to. Next up was China where I have a very active company and we have 5 shows on TV and one feature film in the works. Offices in Beijing and Shanghai andI spend about 40% of my time over there. we just picked up the rights to bring Immersive Van Gogh, Klimt, Mozart etc to China. During COVID restrictions started doing a lot more in the US again. Helped start a new platform, BTYKWN.com which is a content and communications platform focused heavily on the LBGQI community. Also just developed a series about the IQ and EQ of financial literacy geared to the under 35 year olds who got none of that in school.
