Larry's Story
Life
I graduated from Serena High School in 1965 and received my BA from Western Ill. University in 1969. I taught music at the Illinois Industrial School from 1969-1972, Sheridan Grade School from 1970-1973, and Serena High School from 1972-1978. I received my Master in Music from NIU in 1972, and a CAS in Ed. Admin. in 1976. From 1978-1980, I was Principal at Otter Creek School in Streator and moved there in 1979. From 1980 to 1992 I was Supt./Prin. of Rutland Grade School at Ottawa. In 1992 I became the Supt. of Woodland Unit 5 in Streator and left in 2000 to become Asst. Supt. of Kankakee District 111. In 2001, I became Supt. of Mendota High School and built a new high school there before retiring in 2004.
I was married to the former Pam Workman, from 1974 until 1991. I married the former Karen Dudek in 1998. I have one son, Brian, born in 1978. Karen has 3 children from a prior marriage and those 3 have 12 children.
From 1969 to 1976 I traveled around the country judging Drum and Bugle Corps contests. F...Expand for more
rom 1979 to 1991, I worked for Cargill in Grand Ridge, Illinois supervising Rogueing and Detasseling. From 1977 to 1979 I worked at WSPY Radio in Plano, and again in 2004-2005 where I reported the news at 6 PM nightly. From 1979 to 1992, I did news and sports at WIZZ in Streator.
I enjoy all types of music. (Karen and I sing together and co-directed the church choir in Mendota.) I also enjoy ham radio, being licensed since 1977 (W9CLX). In July of 2006 we moved to Blue Springs, MO to be near our grandchildren. Karen retired as a teacher aide last year, but I drive a school bus and process bus discipline cards, watch videos, call parents, and write letters to parents, in addition to teaching bus school to younger kids who don't follow the bus rules. I volunteer at the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library, I play in a concert band and a jazz band, and we both sing in a community choir and church choir. I would like to hear from classmates, former students, teachers, and friends.
