School
Mr. Ralph E. Phares is the best teacher I have ever had in my life within school or without. He treated me like I was one of his many sons, he instilled in me discipline and love.
Military
Enlisted in the USAF in January, 1966.
Basic training for 1 month at Lackland AFB, TX. (Meningitis outbreak)
Spent two more weeks in basic training at Keesler AFB, MI. Attended PATS Math course and then Basic Electronics training. Sets training was on Tropospheric Scatter equipment.
Assigned to 1141st Special Activity Squadron with NATO, Allied Forces Central Europe (AFCENT). Sent to Fountainbleu, FR for indoctrination.
Then sent to Baraque de Fraiture, remote microwave site for one week.
Spent remainder of 36 months stationed in Maastricht, NL, first at site C-3 in a PTT tower. Then I was transferred to the C-Sector Mobile Maintenance team in Roclenge-sur-Geer, BE to support sites in Moenchen Gladbach and Lammersdorf, DE; Baraque Michel and Baraque de Fraiture, BE; and Brunssum and Maastricht, NL. Spent 2 weeks in Driver's Training at Ramstein AFB, DE.
C-Sector had a German OIC slot and British NCOIC slot for most of the time I was there. Our Roclenge-sur-Geer team consisted of 3 German Army Vehicle Maintenance slots, a USAF Master Sergeant, 3-...Expand for more
4 USAF Microwave NCO slots and one USA slot.
Normally we worked 24 on and 72 off. Or 8 days per month! The work shift change was at 1300hrs, so you only had to get up early on the morning during your 24-hour shift. I used to teach Basic Electronics for the University of Maryland during my free time. (I was the lowest ranking person in the class.)

Lived in The Netherlands for 3 years (USAF). Moved to Utah after the USAF. Moved to California after college. Lived in Santa Clara, Santa Cruz and Fresno for a total of 28 years. Traveled to Mexico frequently for 20 years. United Kingdom every 6 months for several years. The Netherlands, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand. Have worked for significant periods in CA, UT, GA, MN, MI, OH, IN, TN, TX, NJ and NY
Events:
Spent 21 years working for Plantronics in Santa Cruz, CA. Travel regularly to our manufacturing plant in Mexico and periodically to plants in Swindon, England; Ringgold, Georgia and Amsterdam, NL.
Traveled twice to Capetown, South Africa. Attended a High Mass presided over by Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Met Lord Attenborough (Sir Richard) and talked about his movies.
Flew from London to Amsterdam while seated in the cockpit jump seat of a 737.
Attended 50th Anniversary of Evergreen HS Class of 1965.
