Laura's Story

Hi, Everyone: I started a Facebook page-- finally! Stop by and be my friend there as well! I only sporadically check in at Classmates, so if you want to be bored by more frequent postings of my daily activities, check out Facebook. Have loved hearing from terrific people from the past! Hi, BUHS friends: Was thinking of the high school me. The shy, glasses/braces overachieving cyborg who freaked if she got a B. Loved band, hated PE, stayed in Girl Scouts but would rather have been riding my horses, played piano for lots of singers/churches, liked wearing the FFA jacket and editing the HS paper. Traveled to Europe and the East Coast with the Santa Ana Winds Youth band. Got an Associate Science degree from Imperial Valley Colege and was Woman of the Year. What else did I expect then? Still in overachievement mode. Went to UC Davis, but won Miss Rodeo USA and left school for a year to travel and model. After my year as Miss Rodeo USA, I went to law school and became a prosecutor at age 24. Was the first woman in the juvenile gang prosecution unit and scared my parents because we were required to go into the field and carry guns. Did lots of felony rape, homicide, domestic violence and gang cases. One of my rape cases made law for women on the issue of "frozen fear", a California Supreme Court opinion. Left the DA's office in 1997. Won a case against DA Paul Pfingst for retaliation against my career after I won a series of high-profile attempted murder and murder cases at 7-9 mos. pregnant. Was demoted & written below standard performance for my effors. The published opinion has made me "famous" in employment law circles an...Expand for more
d helped women in my situation. The IRS likes me for giving them most of the money. Pfingst is no longer DA due to my case & a vote of "no confidence" against him by other prosecutors in the office. Am now a sole practitioner, been an attorney 23 years and am living in Rancho Santa Fe, CA. Am a Girl Scout leader and have served on the local Garden Club board (funny, because I kill most plants) the RSF Association Finance Committee and the RSF Association Planning Committee. Working on business, trade secret, nursing home and other types of cases. Was competing in futurities, derbies and rodeos with barrel horses. Had a horse fall with me in 1995 due to hard ground and she kicked me in the head. No, she didn't dent her hoof. I was in a coma for a few weeks with a major brain injury. But I guess blondes are just brain-damaged anyway because it turned out okay. Came back to beat some World Champions with that horse. Am not riding as much now because I haven't found a good horse after that one was hurt. Have one daughter, Kathryn. She's 13 years old & in 8th grade. She's a black belt in taekwondo, almost as big as me and I don't mess with her. She is super smart and most teachers comment to me that they hope she lets us all know before she takes over the Universe. My parents are living in the White Mountains of Arizona. Many of you probably recall when my mom was the high school nurse. She's 96 on September 8th, Dad is 85. They are still busy with church and community activities. Miss all my band "family" and other special high school friends. Thanks for "stopping by!" I can be reached by email at gmail.com at lakersrsf.
