Laura's Story

Life Hi all you classmates. Tomorrow is that 25th class reunion! I can't wait to see you and get caught up on tales and who's where and doing what! I may need to stay up late to get a photo album together real quick. Our son Shawn is on his own in his new Cleveland apartment, after graduating this May. He is attending Ohio Tech for the PSI Technician certification. That is for Power Sports, jet skis, quads, motorcycles & snowmobiles. He wants to be a shop owner and more. Then he wants to go back for alternative fuels, then custom painting and maybe classic car restoration. He's building his own bike and customizing a stereo system for his truck. He also is custom building two electric guitars. He came home for the first weekend, but we barely saw him. I miss him a lot. Our daughter is going pro in her music, as a clarinetist. She's put together a jazz combo and they are doing their second gig on Aug. 4 at a Spanish birthday party. She will be getting her professional clarinet set up this week. Kevin is busier than you can shake a stick at. He works full time as an analyst for Steelcase Wood, and then he runs his KLAS Firewood Business from home. He and my father just put up a 30 x 40' pole barn to store & dry all of his wood and he's got that almost filled already. He supplies the wood for the pizza ovens at Waldorff's Brewpub, here in Hastings. His clientelle has doubled from three years ago, so it looks to be a good thing for his hobby time. I am still a teacher for WSI Educational Staffing out of Calhoun Area School District. I also run a Home Education Art Studio, which I plan on expanding for next year. This year my studio sessions have been on hold for the purposes of taking care of Shawn's graduation and open house, as well as building the pole barn and getting my kiln fixed. I am shooting to have that up and running by mid August. I am also a new Arbonne Consultant. I just started this week! I have a website that yo...Expand for more
u may visit for that, but am bound by agreement to never place a link to it in my emails, so if you want to visit it, type my first and last name smashed together all lowercase, put dot, then my and arbonne all smashed together then another dot, then type com It is my goal to do this as a part time commitment until I go district and then to use the income to fund my Home Education Art Studio. I really want to do that full time since Michigan has no openings for teachers in Art. I am still not teaching art full time anywhere, though that is my ultimate goal. So I Substitute Teach, Teach Art out of my home studio, manage Kevin's Firewood calls, do his graphic arts advertising, and run around carting my daughter and her instruments from rehearsal to performance to plays to city band and jazz combo rehearsals, to marching band practice, and then to sectionals, and then on over to GVSU to meet with the Clarinet Professor Dr. Campbell for personal tutoring. I am not getting very far on my studio renovating, if you catch that drift, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. Audrey has lots of talent! We'll be seeing her on many stages, I have a feeling. She plays clarinet, alto sax, and keyboard is next in the mastering. She made it into the MSBOA High School Honors Band this spring and then made it into the Grand Rapids Symphony Youth Orchestra. Last week she played in Lake Odessa, a whole two hour gig with 78 year old men we'd never met before, songs her ears had never heard before, with no sheet music on a clarinet she'd never used before... all because they asked her at the Grange Hall if she played anything and she said "I sure do!" I had to be the proudest mom on earth. I'd never seen such shadow playing, but the guy she shadowed sometimes just got up and left her to play on her own and the crowd loved her. She played Georgia as a solo/duet, and improved during the other guy's breaks. They asked if she'd be back to play again this week, but- the reunion!
