Laura's Story
Life
I live in Marietta, Georgia, and am an independent CRM consultant. I work with law firms and other professional service firms to implement their CRM systems. I am fortunate to be able to do a lot of traveling these days, both for business and pleasure. I rarely get back to Tifton, as I have no family there, but would love to reconnect with my old high school classmates! On the other hand, I am so involved with alumni activites at LC that I am frequently back there, and always for Homecoming! And any of you fellow Arthur Andersen survivors out there - would love to hear from you, too! Please e-mail me!
School
I began school in kindergarten at Presbyterian Day School in Macon, GA. I attended Trinity Lutheran Day School in Newport News, VA for 1st and 2nd grade.
Once in Tifton, I attended Tiftarea Academy and Annie Belle Clark Elementary schools. Then Matt Wilson Middle School, and the public Junior and Senior High Schools there in Tifton.
Favorite years in school? First and second grade - hands down. Worst? 3rd through 5th. High school, though, was a blast.
College
I attended LaGrange College for four wonderful years, where I was fortunate to make a whole host of lifelong friends. I obtained a Speech and Theatre degree, minored in History, and held several offices in my sorority, Phi Mu Fraternity.
I then attended Valdosta State University for my teaching certification in Middle School education. I attended Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, OH to work on my Master's Degree...Expand for more
in Theatre.
College years were some of the best of my life. I loved LaGrange, and am fortunate to be able to participate in a lot of alumni work there, planning reunions and serving on committees.
Though Bowling Green U. was not my cup of tea, I loved living in Ohio while I was there. I made some lifelong friends there, as well, and enjoy visiting them in Ohio, Illinois, and NYC!
Workplace
I only have 4000 characters, so I will try to be concise. After college I taught 6th grade English in Moultrie, worked at Wal Mart photo lab (the factory - not a one hour place) in Tifton, then became my father's insurance manager in Moultrie. After leaving grad school, I stayed in Bowling Green, OH, and managed an orthodontist office. I also worked as a cook at our favorite local sports bar for fun with my friends there.
After moving to Atlanta, I ran the box office for "Miss Saigon" when it premiered in Atlanta. (I later did the same for the Atlanta premiere of "The Lion King.") I then worked for Broadway in Atlanta as well as the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. I was Membership Coordinator for the Atlanta Society, then went to Arthur Andersen as an account developer, then managed their Global Sales System for the Southeastern US. Arthur Andersen laid all of us off and ceased to exist. I was hired by Powell Goldstein LLP as their Client Communications Manager, was there for 3 yrs, left to start up my own consulting firm, then was hired b y LexisNexis. I am now back out on my own with a growing number of clients.
