Laura's Story

Life Just wanted to add that I'm now on Facebook (under Laura Mitts). It's lots of fun. Even have a few pix posted! Oh, my gosh, I just read what I had written soooo long ago, and wow, how life has changed since then!! So I'll leave the the old part on, just for fun, and do a little update! The last couple of years have been wonderful, sometimes difficult, but very rewarding. In 2008, my son graduated from high school as Valedictorian, along with all the fun stuff that goes along with that, such as being a homecoming candidate, voted "most social", college applications, our house being super full of teenagers just about every minute of the day -- then culminating in his being accepted to the university he has always wanted to go to. He is now second year at UCLA, in the pre-med program, and just moved from the dorms into his fraternity house -- yikes!! Not really, his fraternity brothers are great, and I think I am having as much fun as he is with him going to UCLA, going to the football games and lots of other events! This year, my daughter got married in a truly beautiful outdoor ceremony, then an incredible reception, all very art-deco, with tons of peacock feathers and cream-colored roses. It was stunning, and so was she. She married a very nice guy, who I now think of as my other son. He worships the ground she walks on -- thank you, Lord. Then she graduated from college cum laude in June, and they bought their first home in August. Obviously, I am incredibly proud of my kids, but what I am most proud of them for is they have both turned out to be loving, giving, caring people. What a true blessing. I'm still a court reporter, still working every other week, so it's a good gig, though I am eligible to retire, but still not sure about that yet. Guess those are the major updates for now. Hope all is well with everyone, and thank you for visiting! (The following was written God knows how long ago!!) I'm a court reporter in Bakersfield; my husband is a lawyer. I have a 21-year-old ...Expand for more
daughter, who is my husband's legal secretary and also goes to college full-time. She is just my very best friend in the whole world!! We are sooooooooo close. My 15-year-old son will be a sophomore in high school, doing exceptionally well. He is very into sports; he lettered in his freshman year, was a starter in football, an exceptional wrestler, and ran long-distance in track. He also pulled down a 4.0 in academics. He received Top Scholar Athlete Award twice during freshman year. My 16-year old stepson, who lives with us, has a rock band, and he also got a 4.0 GPA on his report card. He has to be the best stepson ever. My 25-year-old stepson just graduated from college, and has a great fiance, and they hang out at our house a lot, as does my daughter, though they do have houses of their own. My husband and I love to travel -- you would, too, if you lived in Bakersfield!! We just got back from Hawaii, and I'm already planning our next trip! He is in private practice, so can work his schedule pretty well for travel, and I work a week-on/week-off schedule, so have lots of free time. My husband just got voted Bakersfield's Best Attorney 2005 in the local newspaper, which is a great honor; we are really tickled about it. There are hundreds of attorneys, so it's a big thing! His brother just was voted Best Plastic Surgeon in the Reader's Poll, too. I have many interests outside of court reporting. I love skin care, and attended the Westmore Academy in Hollywood, which is a fifth generation academy started by the head makeup artist on "Gone With the Wind"; I have become a makeup artist, and specialize in airbrush makeup. That's a lot of fun. I am also a district manager for a European skin care line. I have owned a boutique and salon, with a nail technician, aesthetician, massage therapist, and makeup artist) Also, my husband and I are writing a book, which has been quite interesting. I am truly grateful for all the blessings I have and the way life has turned out. Thanks for visiting!!
