Laura Lyn's Story

Life I am a 44 year old single mother of two girls, six and nineteen. My children are first and foremost in my life, they are my WORLD. I enjoy reading, writing, watching alittle TV, surfing the web, painting, doing crafts, talking on the phone and chatting online to friends. My closest friend in the world is Tammie...She is my little babe sis....LOVE YA GIRLIE. Her sons, Tyler and Brandon are like my own kids... I LUV YOU BOTH . I believe in laughter being the cure to many things. You have to love yourself before you can expect others to love you back. School Geez School, well it all started at Ms. Gant Kindergarten with Karen Malone as my side kick. Talk about Childhood friends, we are progressing past the forty mark and she and I have managed to find each other on several occassions and become friends. Okay back to the school, I progressed to Meadowview Elementary. Since my parents moved across town I got my first big shock as a child and had to change schools leaving all the friends that I grew up with in the fourth grade ending up at Byrd Elementary. This is where I became close friends with Joyce Brewer, of which I have no idea where she is now but if anyone knows where she is holler at me. Her parents were Brian and Betty Brewer and she had an older Sister that went to Selma High School. Then the big move to Jr. High came where Westside became my home for the next three years encompassing my passion for music where I was in the band. Gosh I had many crushes but they did not have crushes on me. Tony Bagget, Dexter DeRamus, William Kennedy, Burt Buchanan, Bubby Wall and Derek Edwards (Holler at me folks if you ever become a member)were more like brothers to me than anything else. Then the second shock came....my parents moved to Camden where not only did I have to change schools again but I had to go to a private school. Boy what a shock. I became friends with Dena Helms, Phyllis Threadgill, and Gene McIntosh(God Rest Him, he passed after college broke my heart). I spent most of my time t...Expand for more
rying to fit in to this new surrounding but by the tenth grade most teens are in clicks and me being the newbie made it very hard. This Private school Wilcox Academy, did not have a band so my hopes of being in a grand marching band went kaput with my rank in class. I was still in the top four but being a new person and not being popular has it drawbacks when scholarships come. I had many friends and had many crushes but they did not crush back or if they did...lol they never told me. I think I was taboo for the small town I was in or either I was unattainable to them. I was a good girl which I guess was hard to find during those times. I remember the good times going out to Donna Stuart's home and going swimming in the creek, listening to music and playing jokes on her brother Randy (of which actually liked me) wonder where he is now??? LOL After graduating from high school my parents decided that The University of Alabama was the place for me since my sisters attended there. Ya know more for ya money...lol So during the summers I worked for Millers Ferry Lock and Dam, Corps of Engineers and McMillan Bloedel crew for college kids and took classes at WAllace State Community College to "hurry" up and get my degree. I met a guy at my Aunts House in Chicago, but me being 16 and him being 25 and a Doctor did not go over to well with anyone so my first "LOVE" crush was dissolved very quickly. We snuck around with phone conversations and letters for a few years but I never saw him again after that summer visit. OMG Summer of 42 ring a bell. Will never know but boy oh boy he was FINE.....The SAGA continues under COLLEGE if you are interested. Toodaloo........ College U of A need I say more...LOL sorriety parties, drafting, being the only female in a group of upteen guys while in engineering was every girls dream...NOT...LOL Graduated with BS In Industrial Design Relations with minor in Graphic Design and Art History. Yep sound very creative lol...Too much to type in this little space. LOVED COLLEGE.
