Laura's Story
Hello fellow alumni,
A lot has changed since "69". I married the love of my life, Rory, we've been married 35 years. We have 3 great kids John, Kelly & Maggie. Our joy is our grandchildren, Jack is 11, Derek is 8, Weston is 8, Lily is 5, Riley is 4 & Rory is 9 months. They are a busy bunch. I have been working for Enloe hospital since 1975, retiring as a RN in 2011 due epilepsy that started that year. Fast forward one and a half years, they couldn't get my seizures under control so they sent me to UCSF. After many tests the helped to control my seizures, but diagnosed me with Early Onset Alzheimer's. What a shock, although the signs were there. Since then, I meet onc...Expand for more
e a month at the Chico Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, for support meetings, for those of us, early in the disease process to talk abut changes we experience. What a God send. We laugh & sometimes shed a tear but mostly just enjoy being with the only ones who know what it's like to have this disease, while we are still able to share it. I am doing great, no seizures in 15 months. I feel great, mind doing good, staying active, working out, digging in the yard, running after the grandkids is the best medicine, I guess they were right :). I feel I have a lot of good years ahead.
