Laura's Story
Life
I graduated from the University of Tennessee with a BS in Wildland Recreation and a Minor in Wildlife Biology in '99. Through college, and still today, I've worked with exotic (educational and zoo surplus) and domestic animals. I'm divorced, have 2 cats, and a dog. I started fostering dogs in early 2006 and have fostered nine dogs thus far (Dec '09); it's very rewarding work to save lives, one dog at a time. I have an ex-dog and used to have 2 rats. Sadly, my beloved childhood cat passed on in '99. Some day, I may have a bird and snake or bearded dragon.
I had a red mohawk for three years ('06-09). I have two tattoos, one on the upper part of each arm, and many piercings; I would like to eventually get more ink done.
Now for the sad part of my story. My mom passed away on November 5, 2008. Sh...Expand for more
e was diagnosed with Uteran Cancer in 2005, underwent chemo and a complete hysterectomy, and was in remission for about 2 years. In September 2007, it was discovered her cancer had returned worse than ever. She went through 3 or 4 types of chemo. After exhausting all the options, the doctor stopped treatment. I was told her surviving until Christmas was highly unlikely and she probably wouldn't make it until Thanksgiving. I flew out near the end of October and my siblings visited at the same time. My mom got to see us all together, so after they left, she let go and was gone four days later. That first Christmas was roughest, not only because it was Christmas, but also because my parents would have been married 42 years on Christmas Eve. My mom will be greatly missed, may she finally rest in peace.
