Laura's Story
Wow, what have I been doing? Well, I raised my first two children almost all by myself. When I was married to my first husband, he wasnt really around much and we divorced after 10 years of marriage. Heather and Justin, my children, were my best friends. We did everything together. They were so active in sports year round and I was there with them through it all. I met my second husband because of my kids. I coached Heather in cheerleading and Justin played football for the same team. My future stepdaughter, Lindsey, was one of my cheerleaders and my future stepson, Nathan, played on the same football team. Keith asked me out one day after a practice and the rest is history. He is my knight in shining armor. He also had a younger daughter, Madeline. We dated for about nine months and then he got down on one knee and proposed. We were engaged for another nine months and then got married on April 26, 1997. Savanna was born ten months later....Expand for more
That makes six kids in one house. The four older ones are out of the house now and Madeline is in college. Our baby, Savanna is ten years old and in the fifth grade. Sounds like a fairytale. Well, not really. On April 11, 2008 I had a car accident. I had a head on collision with a tow dolly and a jeep. Luckily, I was in a suburban. I broke both ankles and my left hip. I am doing much better since my nerve decompression surgery in October. I am off all medications. This whole thing has really slowed me down but I will fight til the end. My husband is the best there could ever be. He supports me in every way. I had to give up my job of twenty years at Truman Medical Center because I cannot sit or stand for any length of time. I am looking forward to once again doing things I have always enjoyed but for now, I am so blessed to have a loving family including two very special grand-daughters, Adrianne and June and a new grandson, Callum.
