Laura's Story
I live under several mottos/mantras.
1.Existence operates best by following the 10 Commandments.
2.This is not the dress rehearsal for the play. The curtain will not rise someday for you to play the play; so, play it now, like you mean it. And, make every moment the best performance of your life.
3.If you thought about dying, tomorrow, where would your regrets lie? Would it be for the things you've done, or those you haven't. Don't allow the "haven't" list to get so long. In the words of John Lennon, "Life is what happens when your busy making plans. Don't make plans ----execute your life!
4.Loving should never be done in the dark. It should never be shrouded in guilt or secrecy or lies. At its best it should be shouted from the mountaintops. ALWAYS. Love like you know that it is FOREVER.
5.What you get from others in your life; it is the best they have to offer. Is it enough?
6.Examine your OWN intentions. Life is not a reciprocal agreement. Give what you give because it fulfills you, not because you are waiting for the payoff.
That said, in short, I left home, served actively in the Army for 10yrs, then did the Reserves. During that time, married, inherited two sons, gave birth to son, adopted a daughter.
I have been so fortunate to have means and be able to travel extensively, at least two major trips a year. Own a house in Virginia, a Condo in Vegas, and purchasing a house in NC.

And never too busy to continue my education, non-stop. Have degreed in HRMD & Bus Finance and undergrad in Archeology & Anthropology. Became a computer operator/analyst, a network engineer/administrator, a facilities & corporate security mgr, an HR director, a software consultant, a risk mgmt spec - worked as Prog Mgr for UMD and USC; the telecom industry, Non-Profit Assocs, Dept of Labor, Pentagon Renovation Prog to rebuild from the plane crash. Owned my own construction company. Started a personnel agency, and do consulting for the federal govt - and am sure that when I grow up I want to be a ?????.
Mostly, I am a great Momma Dukes, according to the kids - and even better at the Grandma Gig (7+ now).
And for those of you who remember Konnie and Bobby. Konnie died of a brain tumor in 04/93, 18 months after my father. Her oldest daughter married on 05/24/03. And Bobby (whom I refer to as "my mother's son") is living in GA (7 wives later) - we have taken to identifying them based on geography rather than names...
So, that is the not so Readers' Digest version of my life.
Hey, and why is there not more options in the interest categories. How do I let you know that I am a Speleographer and an Extreme Rappeler....unless I get the photos posted?
