Laura's Story
Life
After High School I majored in photography at Rochester Institute of Technology. I decided that I really didn't like my major and so I stuck it out for the second year to get my associates degree and then transferred. I changed my major and went to Ohio University and majored in Journalism at the Scripps School. I liked that major so much more and my emphasis was on advertising.
After graduating I worked with my father at MBI Products for about 5 years. I married my husband, Dave, and moved to Canton. I became involved in different volunteer organizations and helped my husband out with his business. (Standard Plumbing and Heating Company and Sheetmetal Crafters) It took us 4-1/2 years to have our first child. After Kate(1998) the babies came easily. We had Tom(2000), Anna(2002) and Sarah(2004).
We have lived in the same home since we got married in 1994. We moved out for a year to do a major remodel. We turned a 50's style ranch into an arts and c...Expand for more
rafts bungalow.
We used to enjoy antiques, but we don't have much time for hobbies right now. We have a pontoon boat down at Atwood Lake which should be named the floating play pen! Dave enjoys golf and plays often at our club. We both love to snow ski and we are starting to get the older kids involved.
Right now I am a stay-at-home mom and very busy. My life revolves around the kids right now. We seem to do a lot with our children, but travelling with them is still difficult. When the kids get a little bit older I plan on getting more involved with Dave at work. We enjoy working together.
My father died in 1999 of lung cancer. My mom still lives in Rocky River and she moved into a townhouse condo near Lake Road. My sister, Lisa, married Cree Kysela and has three children: Cam, Elizabeth and Allison. My sister, Molly, is single and doesn't have any kids. She lives in Portland, Oregon. Cree and my mom took over running MBI after my dad died.
