Laureanne's Story
Life
I am now 54 years old married 30 years to a great guy - we celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary July 2011- Two great kids, Derek 27 who is now living in Sandwich and doing well , Jenn 24 who is living with us with her boyfriend Aaron..saving for a place of their own and marriage ...She is now a RN working at St. Lukes Hospital I have lived in Yarmouth since 1981 ..Like all types of crafts! ..Love to camp and travel and the outdoors!! I love life, laughter and being with family and friends. I would love to see all the people I have been in contact with in my life! Since I wrote this 3 years ago I have been dealt some health issues ..I have had many spine injuries and cannot walk and last year developed tongue cancer ..me who never smoked ,,they say it was possibly from second hand smoke ..maybe from all you girls in C-wing Bathroom (and despite what you may have thought I NEVER snitched on any of you! ..lol ,,I lost 3/4 of my tongue and had to have a portion of my arm removed and used as a graft ,,eating is a challenge but surprisingly I can be understood. Some say because I talk so much ...that was my therapy!!! PLEASE to all my friends stop smoking if yo are ,,stay away from smoke and check your mouth and tongue often. Life is a little tougher now ..But I had a great life ..like to have some grandkids before I exit!! Love to hear from my classmates!!
School
I started in Elementary School at James F. Peebles Elementary for 4 years. - Then to Otis Air Force base where we were sent to some old buildings as there was not enough room in Bourne schools. It was a blast there! -- Bourne Jr. High for 7th and 8th. On to Bourne High School which I found difficult as was the times with drugs etc and I really was not into that then or now. - Felt like a outsider.
College
I did not go on to college after High school as I...Expand for more
was not in the $ position. I did continue to take courses at 4 C's and Classes from Bridgewater. / I went on to go into the Healthcare feild for Elderly and the Disabled.
-- I do wish I had found a way to go to a 2 or 4 year college as it has hindered getting better paying jobs throughout my life!
Workplace
I have been doing a little of everything...I started off with my first job in a local factory. Then went into a family resturant business. As I raised my children, did Daycare, delivering Newspapers, Home sales, Discount stores etc.Worked as a Dorm councelor at Riverview School, and other avenues at the school. Now working with Community Connections for people with Disabilities and I love it!! Left there in 2007 to work with Elder service and was in charge of daily Meals on Wheels delivery and feeding 40plus for lunch Mon-Fri ..loved this job too ..I never had a job that i DID NOT LIKE. Have had to retire on disability ..but would really rather be working!
August 29th 2011 Update: Still disabled although after going to 3 Hospitals in Boston and many Doctors it is unknown what is wrong with me. I have nerve damage to my back, neck and legs and I walk very slowly with the use of a walker. May be using a wheelchair if I continue to go downhill. I have stiffness in my legs which makes them uneasy to move. I also had a second hip replacement - had my left hip done when I was a junior at BHS ..I took a fall a few weeks ago and that hip may be in jeapordy. I had 2 neck operations and a back and they have caused the damage. On September 2010 I had surgery on my tongue due to tonge cancer. I lost 3/4 of my tongue and they were able to take a piece of my arm to rebuild the tongue. I never smoked or drank so it is a mistery - but could be second hand smoke. I have lost some taste and it is hard to eat but am still alive .
