Laurel's Story
Life
I was born and raised in Santa Monica, California. I graduated from Samohi in 1964 and went to work for General Telephone the same month. I quit after 2 years and started with Pacific Telephone in the San Fernando Valley. I married at 20 and had a daughter in 1970. Divorced and remarried in 1972. Transferred to Mountain Bell in Denver, Colorado in 1974. Widowed the next year. Transferred to Salt Lake City in 1977 to marry my current husband who I met on the phone, as I had to talk to him each day for work. We had our son Shawn in Sept 1979. I worked for Mountain Bell/US West/Qwest Comm/CenturyLink until retiring in February of 2001 with 32 years of service. Our eldest child, at 37, finally decided to marry her old boyfriend from college days. They were wed in Las Vegas in January, 2007, and gave us our "first" Grandchild in May of 2008 here in Tucson, Arizona. In 2012, after living in Utah for 35 years (way too long), I escaped to Tucson with hubby in tow. Our son lives in Orlando, Florida with his current girlfriend. I have been a member of The Order of the Eastern Star (Masonic rel...Expand for more
ated ladies group) for 38 years. I do a lot of volunteer work, the most exciting one being a "driver" for the 2002 Winter Olympics held here in Salt Lake City. My next best volunteer job was working at the Antiques Roadshow twice, when they were in Utah in 1999 and 2006.......In 2013 I started working for Michael's Crafts as a knitting instructor and did this for 2 years. I am still doing computer work for the Real Estate agent who sold us our home... LIfe is good and we enjoy seeing our "now" 11 year old Granddaughter and her Mother on a daily basis. I also like to knit, read and work on the computer.
If I won $100 million, I'd give some of it to charity, then spend the rest on a new car, trips and put the rest in the bank.
My current age is 72. When I was 12, I thought that people my age were "really old". I was so completely wrong.

My first job was a cashier at J.J. Newberry's 5 and 10 cent store in Santa Monica, where I got paid $1.00 an hour. What I remember most about it is that I made enough money to pay for my horse's feed.
