Lauren (Ray)'s Story

I am what I am that's all I can be. I can't be for you, what I won't be for me. I won't try to con you, like I did in my youth, or tell you a lie cause you don't like the truth. I was born in Oklahoma in 1943 too soon to hbe a baby boomer and too late for the beat generation. I spent my whole life confused as to which group I fit into, finally gave up and decidsed that I was a late war issue with no serial number. Moved to California in 1944 and lived in L.A. then moved to Ojai in 1953. My Dad was the Pastor of the Church of the Nazarene (now the community church) on the corner of Aliso and Montgomery street right next to Clausens funeral home. Marie Clausen was one of my class mates. Mike Alcorn became my best friend, his Dad was the Chief of Police. The two of us made a volatile combination at times. I fell in love for the first time In Ojai, then suffered my first broken heart, then I fell in love again and again and then several more times. I won't embarass the girls by naming them, most of the time I was too shy to tell them anyway. We ...Expand for more
moved to the high desert in 1960 and I went to Wm S. Hart High which had been the arch enemy of Nordhoff. Found out the kids there weren't much different than anyone else...Finally joined the Army at a bad time, Viet Nam was firing up along with alot of protesting and confusion. Came home to rioting in Watts and kids spitting on my uniform, which was disturbing and even more confusing. Went to work in a hospital as an Orderly and then entered the Physical Therapy field and met my wife to be. Got married, had a slew of kids, got sick, got hurt, got tired, got a bunch of Grandchildren whom I never see because I got divorced and moved back to the scene of my earlier crimes. So here I sit, a bent and abused, fat old man, with not much left of life but memories. I still keep in touch with Chuck Robinson and Jack Fusari I spend alot of time in cyberspace. Don't drink, do drugs, smoke or chew anymore. Not much left to live for. Not...I'm a Jesus lovin' Christian waiting for the second coming and I think it's close...Lauren (RAY) Baum
