Laurie's Story

Life Been with my handsome beau for nearly 20 wonderful years, share a household with 2 dogs, 2 cats and 1 very bossy bird; no human children (may eventually adopt, though; was adopted myself and reunited with my "biological" family at age 33/founded the Michigan Closed Adoption Network (as a result), which exists solely as a search and support mechanism assisting adoptees and biological families in helping to locate one another for various [and entirely individual] reasons...closed adoption laws prior to 1980 are a real bugger!). I'm extremely close with my "adoptive" family (my "real life" family), most of which still live in Holly. My only sibling ("Tina the Ballerina," 2 years my junior; now lives in Montana) has blessed us with Emily, Ethan and Billy, much to my parents' relief. Skipped out early in college and opted for self-employment at 19 (first an upscale formalwear boutique [a few too many smash-n-grab and armed robberies quickly expedited THAT exit!), then onto ownership of a couple of boutique tanning salons, then sort of segued from hobby to profession into the fitness industry with a home-to-home personal training business and soon to open a health & wellness spa/one-on-one personal training gym, hopefully, in the Novi area where I currently reside). I also do a bit of commercial interior design work on the sly, which I kinda stumbled upon by incident and enjoy very much. My hobbies include(d) a few bodybuilding (fitness) competition/stints, Michigan animal rescue, future mission trips to war-torn Uganda/East Africa (a very sad and tragic situation), gardening, camping, amateur photography, researching natural health alternatives (specifically pre-WW2), cycling, yoga, SLEEPING(!), and having the great fortune to play women's professional baseball (A-League-of-Their Own-style!) for the Detroit Danger (2002-2005) and the Detroit Diesel (2005-2007). ...Expand for more
I guess when fingers start cramping it's time to wind down, so with that thought: I've been very blessed! :)God knows nobody's childhood is perfect, but I have many good memories of the students, faculty and experiences at Holly High in speck-squint Holly, MI. Mr. Neuss single-handedly injected a very passionate interest in U.S. History in me which still exists to this day, while Mrs. Rolandson introduced me to a very disciplined and thoughtful approach to fictional literature that still leaves an impression on me. Mr. Volz was just a good all-around guy, his classes were always the most fun. Ms. Michaels taught French in such a way that I can STILL speak the language with some (though awkward) authority, even though I only took the class for two years (I was so bummed when my appointed French name was "Laur", I wanted to be a "Sophie" or maybe a "Mee-Shelle"! "Laur" -- how borrrring!"). Mrs. La.. my God, what was her last name.. La Rue? The Typing teacher? I actually whipped up this rambling Biography in a matter of minutes due to her nazi-like approach to repetition and her odd obsession with speed. I am SO glad I took typing in High School and really feel a certain pity for those that missed out. It just makes owning a computer that much more efficient! My, how much it's changed since I've lived there (with the exception of the Downtown area-how did THAT happen? I think some of the grafitti that Kim Overbaugh and I rebelliously scrawled is STILL there! Those old school townie folks must be mummified in those Council seats!). I wonder what ever happened to Robo Cop? He's probably upgraded to at least a bicycle by now. Those poor kids at the new High School. I hope this finds you all Healthy & Peaceful, with the love and support of family and friends all around... God Bless Holly, Michigan! Much Love To Everyone! Laurie Elliott puremettle at aol DOT com
