Leah's Story
Life
I am married to Chad as of 10 Sep 04 and had a baby girl, Olivia, 28 Jul 05, our first child. We live in San Antonio and will be here for 4 or more years. I'm stationed at Lackland Air Force Base and work in the largest hospital in the Air Force.
College
I went to the University of Portland right after high school and got my BSN, becoming an RN. I was commissioned in the Air Force and worked in Med-Surg and Obstetrics until 2000. Then I went to Arizona State and got my MSN, becoming a Women's Health Care Nurse Practitioner. I thought I was done after undergrad, since I did NOT enjoy college that much, but, you know, the choices we make... Grad school was so much more enjoyable...not only because the Air Force paid for 100% and my salary as well. Not only because I had 4 months in the summer completely off with nothing to do but whatever I plea...Expand for more
sed. Not only because Chad followed me there from California, where we met, where his family was, where he grew up since he was 3... But I also enjoyed school and where I was headed in my career.
Workplace
I was working in a clinic (women's health within a Family Practice clinic) at Beale AFB, north of Sacramento. It was small but a great environment. I was the only GYN provider there which was incredibly tough the first year or so...my first assignment out of school, with no one here to help me except FP docs. I had a very steep learning curve but managed to do well, and now at Wilford Hall Medical Center will get to do everything my license qualifies me to do...what a concept. I'm excited to relearn the fun part of this job...prenatal care. And hopefully learn more about all aspects of my job...get lots of great experience and see some crazy things!
