Lee's Story

Life When I was graduated from Biloxi, I attended two years of college before enlisting in the Army (remember Viet Nam!). I was fortunate to be able to get into electronics, and after basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C., I was stationed at Fort Monmouth, N.J. studying communications electronics. I was graduated from the training there and transferred to Japan (Camp Zama) until I was discharged in 1975. While in Japan one of my friends was a medic and was wounded in combat and sent to Japan for the remainder of his tour. In "the real world" he was a police officer in Ventura, California. I became interested in the work and began studying through the University of Maryland there at Camp Zama. When I returned ot he states, I enrolled in the newly created Criminal Justice program at Southern Miss. where I graduated in 1976. I applied for the Houston Police Department and attended the training...Expand for more
academy in 1977. AND, here I am! During my career I have been assigned to three patrol divisions, however, the highlight of my career was my 16 years in the Homicide Division where I worked at a Crime Scene Investigator (yes, I did the C.S.I. stuff as seen on T.V.!) and a Family Violence Investigator. In 2003 I transferred out of the division to begin a transition toward retirement. The job has been divided between great amounts of boredom dotted with moments of terror, sad moments with slain buddies, and satisfaction when the culprit was caught. Along the many years since high school, I lost many friends (beginning with high school friends), married, had two children, the death of my mother (1996), my father (2008), and survived cancer (2004). It's been a long time since I've seen any of my old friends, but I wish them God's speed, His embrace, and love for the remainder of of their lives.
