Leigh's Story
Life
My Spouse
Scott and I have been married for almost 18 years. He is a retired army helicopter pilot.
My Job
I teach second grade. I love it!! I have been named "Teacher of the Year" at two campuses since joining this district 5 years ago.
Most Difficult Moment
I have battled breast cancer. Treatments were difficult, but nothing compares to the fear of it coming back. I was diagnosed in May of 2003. I have undergone surgery, chemo, radiation, and hormone manipulation therapy. For my birthday (2008) my friends, husband, and kids threw a surprise party celebrating my LIFE and % years cancer free!
Workplace
I started my teaching career in San Antonio, Texas in the Edgewood ISD in 1989. I worked there for 3 years teaching second grade. After I got married, I moved to Alabama so my husband could attend helicopter flight ...Expand for more
training with the Army. There I taught adults for a local junior college (for about 9 months). We welcomed our first child in 1992, another in 1993, and for the next 7 years I was my children's first teacher at home full time. In 1999 I went back to work with Fort Rucker School District in a Department of Defense Dependent's School teaching second grade once again. We moved back to Texas again in 2001, bought a house, and had a third child. I once again stayed home with my youngest. We are now settled down in Texas, after moving 8 times in 14 years of marriage. After my husband's discharge from the military, I went back to work full time again. Now he stays home with the children and I teach 2nd grade at a brand new school that opened Ausust 2005.
