Lejuana's Story
After high school I earned an associate degree from NOC and then went to Pittsburg State University in Kansas for my bachelor's. I moved to Ponca City in 1982 after graduating. In 1985 I went to work for the USPS and met my future husband working for a landscaping company at a house when I came by with the mail. We connected two weeks later when we met again while both on motorcycles. (He'd forgotten about the letter carrier but wondered who the chick on the bike was). That was April 1986 and we married in September of 1987. We honeymooned in the San Juan Islands of Washington state and loved it so much we moved to Washington before our second anniversary. He joined the Tacoma Police Department in 1989. Our son David was born in 1990 and I stayed home...Expand for more
to raise him and his little brother Pat who came along 18 months later.
Ron sold his motorcycle to buy my wedding ring and I sold mine when I got pregnant. We did without for all the years the boys were little. In 2003 he decided it was time and bought another bike. We had so much fun on it he bought me one too. When David turned 17 he joined us. Pat is the only holdout. He'd rather stay home and have the house to himself.
I am still with the USPS after going back part-time when both boys went to school. Ron is still with the police department, spent 10 years on SWAT and 3 years teaching at the police academy. Now he is a firing range instructor. David moved out in May 2009 and just got married May 2010. Pat is a senior in high school this year.
