Leon's Story
Life
My family moved to 189th St. in 1952. I attended Crenshaw Elem. from 1954(kindergarten) through 1963(8th grade). I attended North High from 1963 through 1967. Also attended El Camino and CSDH. Graduated from both colleges. As an adult, I have lived in South Torrance and Mission Viejo. I have lived in Mission Viejo for over 31 years. I have two sons, who both attended and graduated from Cal Poly Pomona. Both are married and on their own. I'd love to find a photo of the "bungaloes" that were located in the front of Crenshaw Elem. I spent 1st through 4th grades there before going to the big time(5th grade) in the new...Expand for more
er buildings. Crenshaw has special memories for me now as I get older. Sometimes, you'll find me at the main Torrance library looking at microfilm of the Torrance Herald looking for anything about Crenshaw Elem. I did find an article and photo of the wooden "bungaloes" being built for Crenshaw students in 1951. My whole world as a kid was "Dogpatch" and it was good times. Midway Market, Tony's Liquor(later Corner Liquor), the barber shop at 189th & Crenshaw, the alley between 189th and 190th. These were all my little world, along with Crenshaw Elem. Most of the places I mentioned are gone, but the memories will never fade.
