Leonard's Story
After graduating from ORHS, I attended Kansas State Teachers College at Emporia (KSTC), now known as Emporia State University (ESU), and graduated in 1970 with a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in chemistry and minors in Math and Physics. I went back for a year of graduate study in chemistry.
Then I was drafted into the Army. I served from June 1971 to May 1973. I took basic at Fort Campbell, KY. I then was transferred to Fort Knox for OJT as a Med. Tech. (92B). I was already classified as a Chem. Lab. Tech. (92D).
After I was discharged, I went to graduate school at the University of Texas to study organic chemi...Expand for more
stry. After four and half years, I quit because I had a chemistry job at the National Center for Toxicological Research (NCTR), which is part of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
I started out as a research chemistry. After about five years, we got our first computer control instrument. I was one of the primary user of the instrument, an HP 1040A, This lead me into computers. After 34 years, I wound up doing computer security and scientific computer support. On New Years Eve of 2011, I officially retired from the FDA.
Back in Feburary of 1985, I married a very nice lady from Louisville, KY. We have no children.
