claude's Story
Life
After high school I enlisted in the Army and become a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne div., I was stationed at Fort Bragg NC., I spent 6 years there and came home to Calif. and married Valerie Julian, a friendÃÂs little sister. She graduated from Artesia High School in 1979. Back to the 82nd for another year then transferred to Fort Polk La. for a year. After that on to South Korea for another year. Got back to Fort Bragg, and in the 20th Combat Engineer Bn. (Combat) (Airborne). I was in Desert Shield/Storm with them. My first jump after the war was bad one and I was forced to retire after 18 years of service.
I hate the heat out here and we are thinking of moving to Montana.
School
No one would be interested in my life in high...Expand for more
school. I just stayed there because that was where the girls where. Little did we know that our parents where so right, and these would be the good old days.
Military
Out of 18 years in the Army, I spent 16 years on Fort Bragg. I spent 7 years with the 82nd and 9 more with the 20 Combat Engineers Bde. (Airborne).
The year I spent at Fort Polk La. was a very good year for the family life. We had our first child, a girl. There was absolutely nothing else to do there but spend quality with the ones you loved. I had some of the best solders there too. I do miss one that died there. He was like a son to me. Love you Erick Heitman
The year that my DD214 says I spent in Korea, was a blur. I must have been the biggest drunk that came back alive.
