Leslee's Story
Life
I completed two degrees, raised three sons, remarried and live in CA. I've worked in the government field since 1984 and am currently a Business Operations Manager in the field of Additive Manufacturing and Advanced Materials in a National Laboratory. My hobbies are gardening, painting and reading, with cruising, road-trips, hiking, and horseback riding as activities. My husband (who is my greatest friend and favorite "let's go anywhere" traveling companion - with the exception of Vegas... then Diane is my favorite traveler!), our puppies, and I traveled quite a bit once the boys were grown and had their own families - we currently have 4 grandsons (ranging from 25 to 3-years old) and 2 grand-daughters (21 and 17) and, as of August 2024, a wonderful great-grand-daughter Chloe! Luckily we have good genes - no one thinks they are our "grand" children, which we must admit is kind of fun. We moved in 2023 out of the city environment and now enjoy living up in our mountain home near Yosemite. I've been lucky to have kept my friendship with my most favorite person Diane, whom I met in Kenai, for all these years (she and her husband are now retired and enjoying life). My husband, Darrell, was diagnosed with cancer soon after we moved. After 2 years he is now cancer-free and returning to work. I've been lucky in continuing my position, working remotely, and we've decided that this will be our home for the duration. We now have Darrell's mom living with us in her own apartment which we built onto our home. She loves the mountains and wildlife that wanders through.
School
I went to 4 different high schools in 4 different states, so it was difficult to retain friendships. Kenai was the school I graduated from. I also attended Milo Academy in Oregon, Del Norte High School in California, a...Expand for more
nd Air Academy High at the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. I have been lucky enough to stay connected via email or Facebook with some of the wonderful friends I made in the other schools I attended.
College
I did a dual major in Political Science/International Relations and History/Constitutional Government. I work in a field that utilizes my PS/IR degree, but my primary enjoyment is still Social History and Archaeology! My husband and I planned our travels and vacations to accommodate our shared interest in History and historical places (we've done a lot of hiking and driving to dusty ruins). We've been lucky to travel internationally through Scotland, Spain, France, Italy, Greece (many times... we keep going back), Israel, Turkey, and Croatia, cruised several times thru the Caribbean with several of our family members (hint - never organize and take a 4-generation Caribbean cruise with an elder that 'doesn't do sand' and teenage grandchildren - you need a month to recover!) Our travels have paused the past couple of years and for a while more - Mom is disabled and needs daily care and 4 dogs keep us close to home.
Workplace
I love my work and prefer working in a Government environment where what I do potentially impacts the world and our country in a positive manner - providing tools to protect and defend our rights and freedoms - yeah, I know, that's very "Republican". Actually, I really enjoy knowing and participating in things most everyone else in the world doesn't have a clue about! The people I have had the opportunity to work with and for have been exceptional and, though I can retire, I still love what I do and the teams I work with!
Perception
My best friend would tell you I'm fun, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as reserved.
