Leslie's Story

We moved to Wyoming 22 years ago and I am currently managing 5 bands and am also in other music groups in the area. Oldest boy (6' 0'', 260 #) football scholarship to college and will graduate as a PE teacher with coaches certification. Youngest boy (5' 9'', 200#) studying Computer Technology degree and married to great gal. The town of Sheridan is located four hours west of Rapid City and four hours east of Yellowstone. We're in north central Wyoming with the Bighorn Mts. on our horizon. My husband is the high school hockey coach, won two state championships when both our kids were on the team at the same time. One of the many layoffs with major businesses even in our smaller Sheridan, I will be studying Med Transcription this next year online at home via Sheridan College, a one-year certificate. This will enable me to keep working even when my husband and I move back to Grand Marais and go between there and Sheridan/Billings where our kids are currently. I always wanted to be a elem school teacher when I grew up. My family and friends thought that it was a good idea. As it turns out, they were partly right, I became a part-time music elem teacher for a few years, and a private flute instructor for many years. To blow off steam and relax, I either bike, swim, walk, go to the weight room, drive up to a nearby mountain lake, drive out to the ranch, or play my flute, whistles, and piano. I believe my friends remember me as being friendly, a kind face, a good listener, and a person who loves the outdoors and music. The wildest thing I ever did in school was stay out very late one night talking like forever to a close friend, and our parents got worried and called the police, we didn't realize it was that late. If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have windows, air conditioning, a private corner enough income, and good friends at work to be able to deal with the day-to-day. Inspiration for me comes from a good friend named Mara, also a musician, here in Sheridan. She has the greatest personality and can talk to anyone in any situation with just the right words. Cute, also a talented painter, and four children, always cheerful. I have lived in Minneapolis, the University Grove near SP campus, Roseville, U of M St. Paul & Mpls. campuses, near the fairgrounds, Grand Marais, Eagan, River Falls WI, then to Sheridan, WY. We moved to WY when my husband began working in an open-pit coal mine like his brother did in ND. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is my real dad, who died when I was 12. My obsessions/passions are music, the outdoors, my pets, and health. My biggest surprise of my life has been the past year. If I could improve my home, I'd remodel my kitchen and add on a family room. My dream home would (will) be a log cabin on a lake. As a parent, I've learned from my kids unconditional love and the pure joy of watching them grow up, especially watching them win their sports compet...Expand for more
itions (state hockey champs two years in a row). I would love to see Mrs. Johnson again, my French teacher, she was a great teacher, plus a very enthusiastic person. If I won $100 million, I'd pay off all my bills and future predictable expenses, then spend the rest on my kids, myself for travel, moving, further music studies and certain charities. I lived in Bailey Hall, the dorm on the U of M St. Paul campus, that was the first year it became a co-ed dorm. I eventually tried out for the big 250-piece U of M Marching Band and totally loved it, became a rank lieutenant (head of the flute/pic section). I also joined a music fraternity during my music studies there. To be truly happy, I would be in a year-round log cabin on a lake up north, swimming, fishing, biking, busnowmobiling, hiking, snowshoeing, baking from scratch, gardening, doing my calligraphy, music, doing Medical Transcription on my own time, leaving extra time to do alot more music, reconnect with my old friends and also with my sister and brother, the only family I have left, and have fun in all the lakes and woods around there. My current age is 53. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be completely gray-haired and very bent over. I was so completely wrong! My best friend would tell you I'm nice, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as too open at first and not guarded enough. I like to dress inexpensively, I use things for a long time to save on my budget, but I'm a catalog queen when I do order. I like to dress folksy and comfortably - jeans, cute tops/tees, gauzy tops and broom skirts, etc. The weirdest job I ever had was working as a typist for an aviation book binder while living in Eagan, all I did was take orders and type up these tiny slips, and the owner had a major anger problem, very weird. I share my home with my husband and my oldest boy, home from college for the summer, plus our two cats. The tropies we have in my home are the numerous hockey tropies my kids have won over the years (plus a few wrestling trophies). If I got one do-over I would have stayed in Minnesota and not have moved out West. In 10 years, I hope to be retired. I'm going to get there by selling our ranch. My oldest friend is Becky Wallin, I think we met in first or second grade, she was shy and I was outgoing and we clicked. Our friendship remained through high school, when we lived near each other and would hang out together, go on church trips together, and walk to school together. Something that surprised people at the reunion about me is that I was living out West. My first job was at Del Farm at Har Mar Mall, working in the deli, and going to get the raw chickens for the rotisserie in the big walk-in freezer along with the frozen bloody beef carcasses hanging up in there. A childhood memory I'll never forget is being at our cottage in Menomonie, WI every summer, swimming, boating, all kinds of great activities.
