Leslie's Story
Life
Life since high school was pretty hard the first 10 years or so. I had 3 kids and went through 2 divorces. However, since 1993, things have been very good. I met the love of my life (Scott) and we married in 1995. We live in the same neighborhood where I grew up, have a decent (but old) house, 12 acres of land in Elkhart (with a new house some day)3 dogs, 3 cats, a tarantula, and an extrememly full life. We are very active in our church; my husband and I are the youth leaders of the Jr/Sr High kids and that keeps us busy from September to May, then in the summer we like to camp and spend time outdoors. Our dream vacation is to return to Rocky Mountain National Park and hike up to Long's Peak.
Update 12-2006 (after all, I wouldn't mind winning a corvet!)
Still married (yea), still live in the same house (boo). We are down to 1 cat and 2 dogs. My girl and my granddaughter have moved out of the house, which makes things easier for all of us. Since our kids are all out of school, we no longer are the youth leaders. Life is still full and busy (right now way too busy) and things are going great. We did return to RMNP in July 2005 and tried to climb Long's, but too much snow made the summit impossible for us - not to mention we way underestimated how difficult the climb would be, but we did make it up 3 miles and a little over 3000 ft elevation (for a total of 11,000 ft) and the experience was awesome.
School
It seems kind of weird to be writing on this website. I didn't socialize a whole lot in high school, in fact I wonder how many of my former classmates even remember who I am! I listed myself with the class of 1981, but I actually graduated in 1980 as a junior. As far as class reunions go, I've never received an invitation to either class year! After taking a ...Expand for more
few years off, I received my Associates Degree from IVTC as a Medical Lab Technician in 1985. I returned to school at IUSB in 1989 and obtained my Bachelor's Degree in General Studies, which allowed me to be promoted to a Medical Technologist in 1993.
update 12-2006 I actually did get an invite to the class of '81 reunion in 2006, but was unable to attend because it was the same weekend of our anniversary and for the first time in 10 years, we decided to go out of town, but I would really like to go to the next one!
Workplace
After graduating from IVTC I worked in a private medical laboratory for about a year, then moved on to the South Bend Medical Foundation, were I worked first on evenings, then on nights. Eight years later I took a supervisory position at LaPorte Hospital. After working there for 5 years, I returned to the SBMF night shift for almost 2 years. While working at SBMF the second time, I started teaching science at Michiana Christian School part time for a year, then I went full time teaching Jr high science and math at the school until last year, when circumstances allowed me to be a homemaker. So now I get to stay home and homeschool my 2 high school age boys.
Update 8-2006. I now work as the Arts and Crafts Dept manager at Michaels Arts and Crafts in Mishawaka. It's an OK job, can be very stressful. I'm still trying to decide where to go from here, kind of in a holding pattern.
Update 12-2006 I tried to return to lab work in Oct, but it was an awful experience. I am now the assistant store manager at Michaels and there are some days during this crazy Christmas season that I wonder why I'm in retail! Overall I like my job and I like the people I work with -guess I'm staying in retail for now......after all, Christmas doesn't last forever.
