Levarn's Story
Military
I joined the Navy in 1978 as a HT (Hull Technician), I went to boot camp in San Diego, California during the rainy season (hated it). Then I went to Oklahoma City for 30 days leave & 30 days recruit duty. Afterwards I went back to San Diego for my schooling which ended in San Francisco, California (loved it). Afterwards I spent some time in Long Beach. Afterwards I was assigned a ship, a destroyer, the USS Morton DD948 (saltest ship in the sea), home port HAWAII!!! I loved Hawaii I met a classmate there from Bryan Texas, Louis Hernandez, one day on Waikiki beach. I learned to suba dive there (I joined the Navy besides to see the world, to become an Underwater Welder) and I dived the Blowhole, Northbeach, the Toiletbowl, and Diamond Head among other places. I went to the Pro Bowl, hunted mushrooms on Maui, hung out on the beach $ Kapalani Park on sundays. On the Morton I went to Hong Kong (loved it) among other places. d harbor with a little Los Anglelos thrown in except much larger! Like L.A. you can go swimming and snow skiing in the same day. The harbor is huge with Hydrofoils that they use for the tourists in sightseeing.
After Hawaii I came home to San Francisco where I was stationed on the aircraft carrier Coral Sea. I was station in Alemeda California known as The Bay Area. There are three major cities in the bay area Oakland, San Jose and San Francisco and they all share the waterfront known as the San Francisco Bay. I love it here. I got married to my highschool sweetheart, Betty Gibbs, moved to Oakland and raised two kids Maurice and Cocheta Cavers. Then I got a divorce (so sad) but that's another story. My two kids are in the military now. They wouldn't join the Navy like their old man but opt for the Marines. They are both stationed in Camp Pendleton which is in Oceanside California down by San Diego Califronia and are doing well. I am very proud of those two!!!
