Lexi's Story
Life
(Updates at the bottom) I'm married and have two wonderful cats, Onyx and Orange Crush.
I'm still in contact with a few school friends. I'm still getting in trouble with them, too. I'll never really settle down, I guess. Who says you need to? I'm having a lot of fun. Just ask Alyssa.
I was a part of a roller derby league, the North Star Roller Girls. You can check out the website of the same name. I was a jammer with the derby name LexCalibur, so that means I got to go really fast, trying to avoid the blockers and the pivots that hold the blockers together to make points. I also was a part-time blocker. Yes, yes, I'm little, but I can pack a helluva punch! Er, I mean, block. It's all real, not scripted like the 70s. I have made so many new and wonderful friends. We get together and have so much fun like we're all a bunch of childhood friends. The girls in the league are either professionals in the typical workplace or professionals at home as moms. We have been in a few news stories, a documentary with a couple more in the making, and on FOX national news. That was nice, with a clip of me just after I got knocked on my little ass. That was fun! I was on national TV! They bout The Convention Center on Minneapolis. Woo hoo! It was awesome!
That's all for now. Have a wonderful life!!!
Updates:
Well, we moved to Florida, we were unhappy there and so we moved back to good ol' Minneapolis, all in four months. We just missed Minnesota too much, though the weather down in Tampa was wonderful. So was living just a 30-minute drive from the Gulf,...Expand for more
with the stingrays, dolphins, and other beautiful wildlife to see. I also skated with the Tampa Bay Derby Darlins, who were a great bunch. We just missed our friends and families, the vegetarian restaurants(they were far and few between there in Tampa) and we even missed the Minnesota drivers. Florida drivers are the worst! I'll just leave it at that. There were a lot of things we missed about living here. Even the snow. God, I missed the snow. Who knew?? Huh. I had a blast digging my little VW Cabrio, Rosie, out of the snow last winter just after we had moved back.
Anyway, we now live back in south Minneapolis, 3 blocks from Lake Nokomis. We have plenty of veggie restaurants to choose from. Yay! We plan on getting a vacation home somewhere in the near future. Just not in Florida(maybe).
My husband just loooooves supporting our lovely kitties and me. I make his lunches and send him on his way every morning. I'm such a good little wife. Actually, Dave cooks for me all the time and takes really good care of me.
Oh, and my husband was a referee for the North Star Roller Girls, then voted in as head ref. He loved it! He was also a part of the training committee because he has 12 years of hockey under his belt. He started refereeing(yes, I made that word up) this year to be able to spend more time with me.
It's a great life, and I wouldn't change it for anything.
We retired from roller derby because it just wasn't the same as when we joined. I miss being a part of a league and kicking ass on roller skates but I'll always be a roller derby girl.
