Lilly's Story

Life Hi ya'all! I would love to hear from you. Well, I sure hope you guys that read this will spill some of your guts to me. It's a little painful to get personal, but it can't be any more embarrassing than I've made myself over the years. Share your story. Here's mine. The National Guard (8 yrs barely) did me some good. Taught me some discipline and made me grow up enough to get started on this journey. ARNG was a big party, though. Great friends that I'm back in touch with (and it feels good) Todd & Daniel & Sgt Venglass. Been to Mardi Gras - stinky dirty stay-up-all-night only-do-it-once kinda thing. The regular drill was in Los Alamitos & our annual weekend at Camp Pendleton - whoa! Now imagine BBQ over a sand pit fire and using generators to power massive speakers and subs for da-kine beach party on Red Beach. Not bad after a day at the firing range and then being ambushed with teargas. Shhh! Real life comprised of work (accounting), Some college here and there. Made it through LVN school & passed the boards in 1994 (just for proof), but didn't really fit into that profession. Had a daughter in there and then some more college. Haven't finished yet. Joining the ranks of parenthood was something I wanted, but wished I put more thought into. It was the most difficult change to my life (being slow to change and kicking and screaming against losing my freedom). It did change me, though. It took much longer than I would be proud to say, but I am better for it. Man, how difficult it is to meet challenging people and keep MY mouth shut. I can do it, finally. Funny, now I'm old enough that I can say what I want but I've controlled it for so long... Anyway, still doing accounting. Finally managing (1 gal who works independently - I know it's so hard). Made tons of mistakes over the years but have come to accept my imperfections and can actually chuckle here and there instead of beat myelf up (I know you're feeling me on that). Most important I've lost that 'know-it-all' thinking that held me back from progress. So, I was madly into Mountain biking for several years. I want to blame my fade on that controlling, mean spirited and unfaithful ex-boyfriend that wouldn't let me go to the gym or ride with the club anymore, but ultimately I gave in, so it really was my fault for letting that go. It was a real passion for me, though and I'm trying to condition myself for the single track once again. I had a bad spill when I took a bump that was way too big for me to handle. The burm had a rock at the top that I didn't dodge. It tipped my front tire and freaking out I grabbed both brakes - WRONG! - endo- (not like I haven't done that before) but flew several feet into the air, much like a stunt man being blown out of a cannon. I broke the fall partly with my face and the impact broke my collar bone. I was OK until I tried to get up and couldn't push myself up. That was scary. Looking back, I probably wouldn...Expand for more
't have wrecked so bad if I wasn't on performance enhancers. (Something the ex said would make me work out harder). Those things made me very agressive and I didn't like who I was when I took them. Let me say 'Soccer Mom'. Anyway, So , 8 years & 2 surgeries later, I am stuck with a titaniun collarbone because mine wouldn't heal. Trust me, it's not worth it getting all agro in any sport. I have spent the last few years being afraid to do anything. What if any of my bones won't heal? I can't afford to break anything else. But, I think I'm over that and I'm working toward a happy medium that still affords me some fun. Working to get up those hills sure would give me the deserved satisfaction of the ride down. MTB'rs hear me & wish me luck. I love hiking and camping and tried backpacking. It's hard and the food isn't so great. I tried a part of the Pacific Crest Trail earlier this year and it kicked my butt. I couldn't breath over 9k feet. I would've added a pic here, but thought I'd spare you my puffy, red face. I need to keep the backpacking to the lower elevations until I'm in better shape. Well, maybe I am still the weird one. I'm sitting here with a cat in my lap. He (Chewy) hates men, hates most women (except me). Chewy is the man-cat of my life right now and that's good enough for me. He's a Maine coon mix and loves it when he gets his hair cut (lion). I then have Joey, another Mainecoon mix and Sly, a tuxedo cat. Sly belongs to my daughter, but she kicks him out of her room at night because he's a licker. Joey likes to play fetch. I know, everybody always knew I'd be the crazy old cat lady. So, what else can I say? I haven't bored you enough already? As aweful as I was when I was young, I am that much straighter now, as my old friend Tom Eckerman from long ago would say 'straight as an arrow'. But I really mean it. I'm conservative for the most part. Oh yeah, I'm also atheist. I know that freaks some people out, especially those who think everybody not like them is going to hell and/or they're evil sinners. I just can't fit that into my thought process and believe it or not, it doesn't make me a bad person. I put much thought into doing the right thing and teaching my daughter right. I try to be a positive influence on life around me. I don't fault anyone for their beliefs as long as it doen't hurt anybody else. Some people need something intangible to fear or a utopia to strive for. There's nothing wrong with that if it works. I have my conscience and see the results of my actions in those around me. As long as the result is something good, we all can accomplish the same things aside from our beliefs. BTW - I love this country and our pledge. I will never omit the word 'God' just because I don't believe. I do bow my head in silence to respect those in prayer. Maybe that's just my Christian upbringing or maybe I just respect the differences in people. So, be good & take care of yourself.
